So I've always wanted to make the Dragon Slayer sword from the anime/manga Berserk, but I was always discouraged away by its sheer size. I finally decided to hit the just do it button and start it. So this is my first attempt at making anything really large ,and my first time working with polystyrene foam board. In no way is this perfect but its my attempt so here's after day one.

The first part was to get my mesurments which I got from this fine Reddit user.

I just used a sharpe to make the lines and i used my meter stick and a straight edge to get straightish lines.
The foam board is 3/4 inch thick so i decided to use 3 of them and stack them together.

I had to cut of some of the front to make it a bit more manageable to cut.

Once i set everything up I used both my homemade hot wire cutter and a good old box cutter knife to cut it to shape

After the first one was cut I did the same thing for the other two panels.
After all three were cut out i used my box cutter knife to cut v slots in the foam, and then used my dremel to get it to more of a circular shape.
After all that was done i then tried to get everything glued but as luck would have it the glue I got(Loctite PL 300 Foam Board Adhesive) didnt quite hold the wooden dowel. So I then quickly decided to try hot glue and that provided me with no help. So I said screw it and used some spray adhesive to glue the first two layers together and that worked like a champ.Once they were stuck together I put a whole bunch of super glue on some sections of the dowel and stuck it into place and it worked perfectly. Once everything was set I sprayed on some adhesive to the top layer and the rest of the sword and applied more superglue to the upper side of the dowel. So that's it for now I've only gotten the basic shape and ive got ALOT more work to do, but all in all not a bad days work for my first time making something this big and working with polystyrene foam board. If you have any suggestions or tips or just want to leave a comment thanks and I'll post more as I work on it.
