Bender Futurama Costume..

so, I guess we made it on tv.. in the first episode of heroes of cosplay on the syfy network!! (have not got to watch it, but that's what I hear..) could not have built this costume without all the inspiration from this site!!

They showed it, but the show is actually about a hand full of people who make the convention circuit so they mostly just show them even if they lose or do not even make it to the contest.

Sent from my Etch A Sketch.

Awesome build and great that you got DiMaggio to sign him!

I saw your pics earlier in the thread for free comic book day, are you local to Gabi's shop? I wonder if we know each other ... :)

Take care and looking forward to more of Bender's adventures!

hello, congrats for you amazing job!! I was thinking to do something and finally i found your post. I have two question for you :)
1. Is eva foem too soft for that? I'm thinking to do a bender costume for the carnaval, there is a lot ppl in the disco so I'm a bit worry about that, for the resistance.
2. In a first time you used eva foem (the tipical for sports which are like a puzzle), the final material which you use later of this (the gray one) is a normal stockinet like the clothes or it's a fine kind of eva foem?

I hope your answers! Best regards from Spain!.

pd. Excuse me for my bad english.

Not sure how often you come back to this post but, here goes .... I am just curious how you have the eye binocular piece (or whatever it's called) attached to the head? I don't see where it has been sewn on, but was thinking it was glued onto the head.

Also, what did you end up using for hinges on the chest panel?

I am very interested in solving these issues as my son has asked me to build him a bender costume this year.

Thanks

Hoping you may come back and see this :D

GREAT COSTUME!!!! Using your build as my first attempt with using EVA foam, thinking it's simple shapes.. after working on it, I can see how much work and detail you put into this!

For the foam feet, what is the type of foam you used? Is there a specific name? A place you ordered it from?
I haven't been able to find the exact type of material and have been testing with expanding great stuff foam and some rigid foam from Lowes/Home Depot and I'm trying to find something that will work better, easier to carve, hold it's shape, etc.

I'm also jealous that you are able to get the sewn pieces to fit so well together. Mine doesn't look so great on the dome/circular parts.

On mine (which was my first completed costume) I used 10mm foam interlocking yoga/kiddies playroom mats for the lot - including the feet so no carving was required. I aborted my attempt to cover with material and simply paper mached over the lot, painted with a bog standard emulsion paint and then coated for a shiny finish with a plast-cote spray. The finished look had imperfections but I reckon it gave the impression of what Bender's body would look like given his life style, ie lived in.

Your costume is amazing… i‘m currently building one on my own, but unfortunately i can‘t see any pictures of the building process in this thread anymore… it would have been a big help for me, because i have a lot of Questions….
