First I would like to say I have been browsing the forum for a while and would like to thank all of the great ideas and talented people here.
With that being said I thought I would share my Bender cosplay for A-KON in Dallas, Tx this year. This is the second time going to A-KON and my first cosplay. Naturally, I used BirdDog's thread to base my build off of. (Thanks BirdDog! Your work is amazing!) Link
The chest has a bluetooth speaker glued in and it required someone with me to play sound clips while the pictures were being taken but it's a good idea to have someone with you anyway when walking around in this costume. The fan favorite clips were the Futurama theme song (usually got some people dancing), Bender's catch phrase - "Bite my shiny metal ass", "Bring it on baby!", "I'm so excited I wish I could wet myself!", and "Uh-oh! Nerds!"
Originally I had designed the eyes in the head to zoom in and out as Bender's eyes do when he's interested in something. The electronics work but I had several issues with converting a rotary motor into a linear actuator (Google is your friend) and the morning of me leaving to register it all blew up in my face. I eventually accepted defeat and made felt eyes to show the frustration I was experiencing with the eyes.
It was a lot of fun to make and definitely attracts a crowd. I got yelled at more than once for stopping traffic even though I was against a wall.
