Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (Post-release)

MoS, on the other hand, makes no social statement and doesn't go against the grain. It simply tries its best to fall into line with the tone with Nolan's Batman, Watchmen, 300, Sin City etc.

Maybe it's a reflection then of the time where it's not cynicism but that people aren't looking to watch a social statement, but be entertained.

What I am tired of seeing in the villains, is them having the same powers as the hero. That crosses both studios.

I posted something very similar to that in the "things you're tired of seeing in movies" thread. It shows total lack of creativity and nearly every hero film has done it.

I was thinking of Lex's ending in this film and it really highlights how badly wrong they handled the character. "real" Lex would have pulled the strings from further afar, where Bats an Supes would know it was him but wouldnt be able to prove it. Now that he's locked up, the bombing of the senate hearing would be life without parole alone, he's not seeing daylight again. So to bring him back means he has to escape, which kind of turns him into Hackman;s Lex, living in a sewer with an idiot sidekick.

This whole movie could have been saved with a much smarter Lex. And a different actor playing him. He should've been older, possibly making runs at the presidency and then feeling ultimately threatened by superman. That film gave me no reason to understand his beef with Supes.

and as far as we know, they've never met before the rooftop scene. there was no history with the two, and their breif meeting out of costume doesn't count from earlier.

The other thing that bothered me was 'mercy' . lex just casually killed her, a useful employee, without a second thought. even the joker wouldn't do that to harley.

Exactly.

This film should have had the heroes foil Lex's plot for power while Lex is able to maintain his position. The sequel should then have him playing them off against each other as he knows he isnt going to achieve his plans while they're around.

As it stands now, Lex is spent. Don't see him being a power in this universe now without some serious face palming.

The wife and I just got back from seeing it.

Sigh.

I now owe the wife at least one rom-com because this movie was so terrible. My wife is not a comics fan, and she absolutely hated it. Batman was an a-hole, endless stupid fights, way too gloomy. She does usually enjoy the marvel flicks.
I can't really argue the gloominess, telling her the tone is in line with the previous Batman movies doesn't fly with her. I don't really like the tone, movies should be a bit more fun, this wasn't a fun movie. You know who you have to sell this movie to? Her. The non comic book fan. This is why the movie has dropped 70 percent this week. Non Star Wars fans saw TFA and enjoyed it, BVS has its flaws as well but they are more fatal, closing people's wallets. The word of mouth on this movie isn't good, it's not the reviews as much as average movie goers just not enjoying it.
Batman IS an a-hole in this movie, Ben was fine in the role, but where the heck is his code? Why the confusion over the name Martha to reach some slight epiphany regarding Supes, rather than seeing Supes goodness for himself? Also, the worlds greatest detective can't use google? For the name of a ship? He's got a defense department quality computer system.
Superman is better here than in MOS, barely, but he sure puts on the blinders in this movie, not analyzing, and not learning from his failure.
Lex is horribly used, far more a poor mans Joker than a manipulative genius. Face palming worthy.
At least they decided to destroy an 'abandoned' warehouse area for the finale.
This movie tried to cram in too much and ran too long, like many movies do. Cut back on the endless fight scenes and give me back some character so I can like them. Doomsday just seems tacked on for the extra big finale, if Lex had Doomsday why bother with having Bats and Supes face off? Did he really think Supes would bring him the head of Bats?
Why did Wayne dream of Lois Lane? How did Lex know to hold Martha Kent? Was I so perturbed by this movie (which I so wanted to like) that I was missing plot points?
Probably.
WB obviously knew this movie was flawed, I can imagine the hand-wringing happening in the board rooms.
Please let the JL movie not suck this badly.

Well, considering the dropoff, a movie usually needs to make 3 times the budget back in order for it to warrant a sequel/support from the studio. The budget with marketing was 400 mill, and I dont see this making 1.2 billion worldwide. Its close, but Im not sure. I guess we will see.

Thats is down to opinions and for me MoS was good and better then some marvel movies so y opinions

First of i wasnt comparing villains, i was stating that marvel villains have been poor. Either we got an oversized version of the hero or just a villain that was very dissapointing (Ultron). Secondly for me Zod was a great villain (i dare say he was more threathening then nearly every marvel villain) as was faora and the performance was by far better then what was delivered in the past. Wasnt a fan of lex tho and doomsday was a villain that was used too soon. That however is a totally different topic.

Yeah, you could say that MoS was better than say... Iron man 2...But are you a fan of superman? Cause I am, and that was NOT Superman to me. But like you said, its just a matter of opinions. I dont get the beef people have with Ultron, I loved him. Ok now Im confused. Is Faora the chick that was with Zod? The one that had a helmet on the whole time? What performance? She has about 10 words of dialogue. Granted there are more Marvel movies than DC, but still. I would take an Ultron over a Faora/Parallax/Lex any day. I didnt even know her name until you said something haha.

the problem is, you couldn't tell the difference between zod and superman. superman was just as likely to let a civilian die as zodd was.

to me, that's not superman ;o).

Even in Superman 2, the villains used that weakness against him and superman stopped the fight to save people. THAT is a hero.
none of the dc people seem to LIKE being heroes..

Ye big fan of superman and prob my fav along with batman (More into DC ;) ) So doesnt mean that im not a fan cus i liked MoS. It wasnt perfect and it had a few moments in wich i dint agree with but then again when it comes to movies like this its hard to please everyone. Ultron for me in the trailers looked like he was gonna be one badass villain and was just nothing really. At no point i felt like he was a threat to the avengers.

Yup the city fight was a good way to show how he cared only to screw that moment up by killing all 3 of em when there powers were removed.

so, then if he arrested them and put them in jail with gen pop, you'd have people saying it was an unsatisfying ending.
even lois landed a killing blow..

arresting would have been odd anyway but then again the chamber to remove powers was just one of the odd things in that movie

There is supposed to be a tv edit of Superman 2 that ends with police taking the three of them away alive.

Yeah I've seen that.
You know at that time when I saw it in theaters as a teen, I never thought they were dead. I figured they were kept frozen down there or something. Because Superman wouldn't kill.

Same here.. or, they just kept falling for eternity in a bottomless chasm ;o)

Its hard to make out, but they are there.

wow, that was bad ;o).

Alaska I could buy having police that far out in nowhere, but the north pole? ;o)

even his plan that he's lying out is bizzarre..it's supposed to be a plan to help himself out, not to make superman dissapear ;o).

This is outside the current slant of the discussion, but I'm really curious about something that keeps popping up. A ton of people all over the internet are giving Eisenberg a pass because the movie called him "Alexander Luthor Jr.", which is leading them to believe that comic Lex was his father, Lex Luthor Sr. Nothing in the movie led me to believe that, and I took the Sr/Jr plot to be an explanation for his ownership of the company so young (to avoid making him a Zuckerberg type) as well as to give him daddy issues. From my understanding of evidence given in the movie Eisenberg IS Lex Luthor, a millennialized, twitchy one, but the "real" one none the less, while his father just happens to be a man that was named Alexander Luthor. Am I way off base here or did other people feel the same way?

"Junior" was nothing more than a device to attempt to explain the casting Mark Zuckerb... um, Eisenberg.

I'm still not sure why they shaved his head towards the end of the movie. Initially, I thought he got a death sentence - but, that didn't seem to be the case.

The Forbes interview with the character said he was a Junior and his father started the company.
