Batman the Animated Series props WIP Pic heavy

With nothing good on TV tonight and little motivation to go out to my shop and sand i figured i would start the drawings for my next BTAS prop. The next item on my list was a Bat-Signal. Unfortunately i don't have a flat roof to put one on and even if i did i don't think it could support the weight of a full size Bat-Signal so i will be making one to sit on my desk at work. The dimensions i will be using are 4.5" x 5" and 6" tall. I was able to find only one image from the series of the bat-signal and that was from batman mask of the phantasm i think it was on screen for half a second at best but that was long enough for a screen grab. Like the other items i have made from this series i will be 3D printing the parts. I think with this one i will be adding a light to it so it will work like it should. I think the only issue that i will have adding the lights is fining a good way to make it functional and easy to replace the batteries while still making them hidden. Well problem solving is half the fun of this stuff so no worries about this yet.

A quick update on the bat signal progress. I got all the pieces for the signal printed out and pre-assembled to make sure every thing is lining up and fitting properly. Up next is some supper fun sanding and filling gabs. Than i will be installing the LED that i got for it. I hope that it will be bright enough to display the bat properly but before i can test it i have to wait for my resistors to show up. All in all I am happy with how this is turning out I think this will end up being a great item for my desk at work to proudly display to my coworkers how big of a nerd I really am.

Progress update, so the batstar is quickly becoming my favorite batarang. Today i worked on my first ever attempt at mold making. I think it went well, I have to do better next time at making sure that the item that I am using as the master is better secured to the base so no mold material makes its way under but other than that I think it turned out nice. As i waited for the mold to cure I worked on the bat signal some and I also finished up my second grappling gun. This one will not be weathered and will be hollow with a removable hook, still need to work on the hook thou.

That is amazing. Please tell me they'll be a thread in the trade section for these:). If so my Christmas list just got longer haha

Thank you for the kind words, but i doubt i will be doing a run of the grappling gun or the bat signal. They take a lot of time to print out and the cost involved in making them might not be worth it to someone else.

Yesterday i finally got all the parts i needed to add the LED to my bat signal. This was just a mock-up to make sure it was bright enough. I am now confident that it is bright, very bright and it will work great. I think i will need to make a sign to sit next to it that reads don't look directly into the bat signal. Also on the bench today was two more batarangs. A big thanks to Nick for the reference photos on these.

Un-fricking believable!!! I've been wanting to do something like this for so long now. I was thinking about doing a modernised version of the grapple gun. But Now I just think I'll try and have a go at what you've done

Thanks. If you would like I can post some dimensioned drawings of the grappling gun I built. I am not claiming that what I built was the right size but at least it would be a starting point. Let me know

At this point I think I can say that I finally have a worth while Batman the Animated series collection of props. This weekend being a long weekend for me I was able to finish two more Batarangs and get my Bat signal done. I really love the bat signal, it has to be my favorite thing that i have built to date. I don't think it could have turned out better, it is supper bright and looks sleek. Below you can see the projected signal on my exterior garage wall. I figured I would also include some pictures of almost all of the BTAS props that I have made in the past few weeks. If anyone is wondering the pictures where taken top of a 1938 Pontiac, it too has a great 30's art deco look so I figured why not.

so which of these wonderful toys do you plan on making available to fellow members?

I am mulling over the idea of offering the grappling gun and the batarangs. They would be un-finished 3D printed parts kind of like kits but I don't know for sure yet. The one thing I know for sure is that my finishing skills are not up to the level of offering fully finished items to people.
