Maybe you can film on a room top of a building? You shouldnt get too many problems if you film up there.

Thanks! Let me know what you think of it :)

Still need the actors and the cameras, and the permission to film on a building, but I'm happy to hear any suggestions (other than to go to he** ;) )

Re: Batman Live Action Fan Series. Any interest?

Alright, the first overview has been up for a while. What's everyone's opinion? Good pilot or not? It's just an overview, and it's kind of un professional to release story overviews, but second opinions and others interest in this is very important to me.

Re: Batman Live Action Fan Series. Any interest?

I think you lost a lot of people by switching sites and not posting it here. Sorry

Re: Batman Live Action Fan Series. Any interest?

I was hoping that wasn't going to happen :( Why I did it, was to try at protecting the material, I'm still not sure if I should put it up. If anyone wants to read it here just say so, I'll put it up later if so.

Re: Batman Live Action Fan Series. Any interest?

Yea people don't want the inconvenience. Sorry man, but if your afraid of someone stealing it, and you don't want to post it here, then you won't be getting feedback.

Re: Batman Live Action Fan Series. Any interest?

Well, since nothing is set in stone, it doesn't really matter I guess, especially since I just found a youtube video titled: "The Gotham Crusade" and there's already a series "the Caped Crusaders" and it's not my idea anyway (not ranting, read in a silly "oh well" manner).

Here's the first episode overview. Let me know what you think.

EPISODE 1:

BLACKEST NIGHT

In a cemetery Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson pay their respect to the late Wayne s. As they go to depart Dick asks Bruce if he's going to take the night off, the next scene we see is Batman and Robin taking out a Falcone gang who have been gun running, as they go through the shipment they find the intended buyer. Roman Sionis. The Black Mask.
A meeting takes place between two of the leading crime bosses. Falcone and Roman Sionis. Their plan is simple, tight with tension, but one that could get both bosses what they want 24 million dollars, or batman and 24 million dollars. They kidnap the Mayor's 14 year old daughter and demand the money, waiting for the batman to arrive.
Batman arrives at the abduction scene where Gordon is waiting for him. As they discuss what happened, Barbara (Barbara who is with several other detectives outside of the room of the abduction) sneaks a peek through the door and sees the dark knight, she makes a lewd comment and keeps watching.
Batman begins meticulously going over everything from her bed to light fixtures, he stops at the closet door where he sees a piece of black material subtly sticking out from under the door. Immediately Batman knows the culprit, Black Mask. Barbara's snooping is interrupted by a tall well built man in his late twenties, through small witty remarks and teasings we learn it's D.A. Harvey Dent, he enters the room and catches batman and Gordon in conversation. After tense introductions he informs them of the ransom, and begins going over payment scenarios, batman warns him about the possibility of Sionis getting the money and killing the daughter anyway, and tells them to negotiate until batman can find the girl. Dent sets a deadline for batman to find the girl, or they pay the ransom.
Back at the batcave it's confirmed through dna that the material is the same as the Black Mask's mask. With more study Batman concludes that Black mask is holding the mayor's daughter at the docks as the type of oil used for boats is apparent in small traces on the fabric.
Batman narrows the radius where they are holding the Mayor's daughter by the old type of oil which had been banned by the City of Gotham for years. One location comes to mind (no bat computer doing the finding, only the dna match), the Richardson Dock.
Falcone and Sionis's men are walking on eggshells in the Richardson Dock as they wait for the arrival of the batman. Sionis and Falcone sit the foreman's office with the a girl with a sack over her head, motionless. They argue about the subtlety of their plan, if Batman will find them or not. Black mask walks over to the girl, puts his hands on her shoulders and sniffs her hair that comes out from beneath the bag. "I know the bat, he'll come. Won't he?"
Shaking the girl nods and begins sobbing.
Stealthily batman and robin take out each of the thugs and make their way to the office. As they try to take mask he withdraws a small device with a trigger. Black Mask had rigged the entire place to blow. Falcone becomes animated. Batman tells robin to jump Mask. Mask pulls the trigger. Nothing happens due to one of batman's signal blockers he carried with him. Black Mask is tackled by Robin. Falcone reaches for the girl, taking the bag off of her head reveals a woman, not the mayor's daughter, with short black hair that had been wearing a blond wig.
Through the ensuing chaos of brawling Black Mask tries to escape. Noticing the mismatched wall on one side of the office, Batman hurls Black Mask into it, breaking the false wall and leading into a hidden room with the real daughter. Falcone is easily subdued by batman. Robin calls in the police and unties the daughter, once she's free she gives the boy wonder a kiss and a thanks. Embarrassed, yet enjoying himself he says almost to himself: "And who says batman gets all of the girls." while the daughter has her arms around his torso, crying.
Batman begins tying up Black Mask and looks up at the imposter.
"What did you do to put you on the Black Mask's list?" Batman.
"Oh, nothing much, just stole a half a mill' worth of firearms off him..." Woman, in a controlled voice.
"I'd untie you, but I think it's best for the police to take a look into your background first."
"Oh, you wouldn't want me in a prison all by my lonesome self would you? Besides, I don't need you to untie me."
The woman stands up holding the severed ropes in her hand. Black Mask tries to break free and batman has to subdue him. When he looks up the woman is gone.
We see Batman and Robin on a roof, overlooking the city. Robin talks about the mayor's daughter and how it sometimes feels go to be the good guy. Batman as always is cool and calculated, perplexed at the thief's disappearance.

That's all for now, let me know what you think, sorry for any misspelled grammar, it was rushed.

Re: Batman Live Action Fan Series. Any interest?

2 things you need to keep in mind:

1)people will not just give money to you. you have to at least have something to back up the claim of wanting to make a series. like, a fight scene, or an SFX scene. when people have something visible, the will much rather give you money.

2) do not underestimate the cost of this undertaking. props and costumes alone will run you at least in the range of something with three zeros in the back, unless they get donated. you need permissions in certain areas to film. you need gear (video, audio, light, etc), VFX, actors and crew, who, even if they work for free, you have to at least care for with food and drinks.
8 minutes of episode for eight episodes can take more than a month of filming

you say you have no experience in filming. that is bad. that automaticly pushes your staff up. if you intend to do something like this, you want to keep crew to a minimum, and do as much yourself as possible, so you can control the outcome. remember, even if people are willing to help you out, after some time their interest will fade, and the stuff will begin to be half assed.

i dont want to discourage you, but it seems like it might be a little big.
anyway, if needed i can help out with vfx/sfx, as long as its not too much (extended cgi shots etc)

i agree, Im currently at university studying film production. not to put you off the idea, but you need to do a ton of work before you start even thinking about who will give you the money, a concept idea of each episode, then write the screenplay for each episode, then story board each episode, then its always good to have a precise budget so you know what you expect to put into these episodes, have a budget breakdown for each episodes and the whole series.
im probably missing some thing, but after you have all that, then you have at east some ammunition to pitch to producers.

and a great book i would suggest to you is: "The definitive guide to screenwriting, by Syd Field"
it really helped me with my screen writing and its always a great book to have.
and most importantly, don't give up!!!!

Yes, I agree with you, and like before when answered for the first time, I didn't say I wanted people just to throw money at me. The whole point of this thread is to see the "INTEREST" in a "BATMAN FAN SERIES". Will I be filming this thing tomorrow? No, not probably even until next year (even the trailer). I pointed out that I have not produced a credit yet, I know that I haven't 'shown' that I am competent enough to handle this yet (though I believe whole heatedly I am.). I've pointed out the dificulties I have had that are keeping me from showing everyone what my talents are. Now, please, enough of the: "Don't do this until you're Steven Spielberg." replies. I'm REALLY trying not to get upset with the lack of "help" that I am looking for (producers, writers, actors).

I'm done with this rant for now. If anyone has any remarks about the actual overview, I'll answer that, it's what I put up to see if this 'kind' of story is what you think will be desired to be watched by many, instead of just close friends and family.

Re: Batman Live Action Fan Series. Any interest?

I like that this episode would, indeed, hinge on Batman's detection skills, as you had been saying previously you wanted to highlight that aspect of the character. In that way, it put me in mind of the forensics shows, like CSI, and I think that's appropriate.

As a note, I think you have Dent's age a bit young. It seems to me that to gain the career experience and reputation to become the District Attorney of a major city like Gotham (and not, say, an Assistant DA) you would be at least in your mid- to late-30s, and that seems fast. Unless you're playing him as some kind of wunderkind, child prodigy type.

It does sound like a big production, but I don't think those are the notes you're currently looking for, just response to the idea itself. I would watch this take on Batman. And I already have questions, in a good what-happens-next way, like what is Selina Kyle up to letting herself be used for this?

And I already have questions, in a good what-happens-next way, like what is Selina Kyle up to letting herself be used for this?

(1) I've always wanted to show that the batman is the world's greatest detective, not just the world's richest orphan with anger issues (sorry Nolan, I loved the Dark Knight Trilogy, but Wayne's detection skills lacked something to be desired). I want to continue his tuition/skill throughout all of the episodes, making him suspicious of everyone and thing is kind of his curse in my opinion, being that he can never let anyone see his weaknesses, in return, never letting anyone get close (which has a harsh reaction for him later in the series ;) ).

(2) With Dent, I'm still unsure if he'll be older, or a wonderkind, probably in the middle, probably early 30's, but definitely a stand out from the crowd with his 'aggressive' stance for justice ;)

(3) Thank you! Hearing that it makes you want to read more makes my day :$ . Kyle's involvement (being there really is no reason for secrecy, being nothing is in production, or will be for a while :( ), is a part of the greater, tie in all of the series.
She refers to stealing a cache of weaponry from BM (yup, that's what Black Mask is :lol ), this is an unseen accomplishment for Dr. Hugo Strange, which he uses to outfit his mercenaries led by the fabled "Bane".

Instead of immediately escaping the clutches of the inept BM, she does recon (all according to Strange's plan) to see Batman's skill in the field.

I don't think Selina will be making more than 1 more minor appearance in the series, in which all of this info is revealed quickly in a shadow like manor, that you can get the impression that there's a dark figure behind the surface pulling strings.

I've almost got Episode 2's overview done, but I'm having a bit of trouble with tieing up the end realistically (timed explosive, Joker, Robin, yeah, it's a juggling act no pun intended :p

Re: Batman Live Action Fan Series. Any interest?

I just skimmed through your script. I suggest you cut the fat of the episode and concentrate on what is needed to tell the story. This is how I would lay out the Episode in a low budget way.
To streamline the script, you do not need the scene at the grave. The fight at the start is not needed either.

Scenes
1.Start the story with the home getting broken into, and the gang kidnapping the girl.
2.Next go the crime scene with Gordon and the cops. Then Batman and robin show up. Then intorduce Dent. The viewers will get the same exposition from Gordon along with Batman and Robin..
3.Next have Bats investigate the room and find the clue.
4.The Batcave scene would be a good place to ask Batman about having the night off.
5.Next the docks reveal of Black mask and Falcone. This is where you can have Black mask and Falcone talk to each other over if this was a good idea. Then our heros can show up and the fight scenes can start. Batman taking out the goons, and Robin finding the girl.
6.Then the closing of the story with them on the roof watching the daughter return home to a hug from the major.OR they could be setting in the Batmobile after returning the daughter home talking about the what just happend. OR this conversation could take place at the Batcave with Robin and Batman unmasking, after a night out. Then you can get that shot in scene 4.

I just feel that these Episodes can work as short stand alone movies like the animated series did. Then if you don't end up making all of the Episodes you still have a good short. Not a series that didn't take off. That way no pressure.

Casting
Barbra Gordon does not seem to aid the story and seems to be put in for fan service. Not even sure if the decoy is needed. I am sure the master detective can tell a grown woman from a 14 year old girl.

So what you need are Batman, Robin, Dent, Gordon, Blackmask, Falcone, Daughter, Mayor, and the daughter decoy as the leads.

For extras 4 to 6 henchmen to beat up, and maybe 2 to 4 extra cops for the crime scene. I would have the people who play the extra cops play the henchmen. Just don't show their faces from close up . That would save time casting

Locations Batman Dead End was done in one location with 4 characters, and people love it. So just stick to what is needed.

1. Mayors home: This is where scenes 1-3 are shot. So you get 3 scenes in one location. This is great for time, and it is a controlled environment. The good thing about it just being a home is that it can be filmed in anyones house ,or apartment who is willing to let you shot there.

2.Batcave: This could just be a dark garage, or corner in a room. Put some trash bags on the wall. Shot the bags with spray foam , then paint them. Add a few computer monitors, and LCD screens. instant Batcave, minus the giant penny.

3. Docks: I have no clue how to shoot this other than a real dock, or ware house.

4.Roof: Since you are in Chicago I am sure you have lots of those.
Backup for Roof inside of Batmobile: Just black out the windows of your car or green screen them. No one has to see the outside. You could use footage of the Batmobile from Batman 89 driving in the country and cut it in if you have to.
Another Backup Shot the Closing in the Batcave after returing from a night saving the city.

Costuming: For most of the cast you can get some suits from a thrift shop.

The Police: Black slacks, blue or black button shirts, a police cap, and badge.

Gordon :Long coat. Glasses. Mustache. White hair.

Mob: Blazers, slacks, and fedoras. Or you could give them a street gang look. If that will save you money or time.

Batman, Robin, Blackmask. You could use any method that would best present your vision or budget. A movie style, or comic style look.

I think if I were to shoot the pilot before the kickstarter (or other backing) then I probably would do something like this.

Although, I've always considered everything I put into this to be 'necessary' to the story. I'll explain in the grander scheme of things:

Scene "Cemetery"
The scene gives a hint into Bruce Wayne's life, not batman's, giving the audience a first look into the life of the man behind the mask, cold, unforgiving, calculated, on his parent's death's anniversary he ambushes a group of gun runners.

Scene "Barbara Gordon and Harvey Dent Intro"
I wanted to introduce most of the characters in the first episode, and yet have it relative to the story, Barbara being there is to satisfy her own curiosity (and Gordon's lack of will power when it comes to his daughter). Also in the outlook of things, Dent needs to be portrayed as a good guy, he's hard, but it's for the right reasons. As I noted with the villain line up for season 1, Two Face won't be showing up throughout it. At all. From the audience's viewpoint, you will get to see Harvey Dent's good name get built up (something that many of the other batman shows/films never did).

Casting:

With the Decoy (Kyle) only Falcone and Robin are surprised (batman, no reaction as usual) and it's a key in for the rest of the season.
Barbara plays a key role in the separation between Batman and Robin. Being a sort of *cough* love triangle if you will, being that they both want/like Barb, and that through her being with Bruce leads her into a lot of danger, and yet whenever she's with Dick, everything is mostly fine and they have a good time, but Barb goes with playing with fire which is another lead in for a future event (Episode 7).

Sorry if everything is a lead in, I'm just trying to sew all of the episodes together, and continuity is something I want in the series,

Also, I don't know about there being a batmobile or not :/

Re: Batman Live Action Fan Series. Any interest?

Hi Seth, I just found this post casually. Your project is wonderful and I encourage you don't giving up! I'm from Spain and I recently finished my studies at Photography, and those include camera operator, director of photography, and many other (on cinema and tv). I've been in five shorts in two years so I've got a bit of experience in photography department, also I've got alot of friends producers and directors from school, I've been director of photography once and camera operator twice, in school projects but cool projects with other guys at the directing department and producers, it was all school practics but the shorts were real. I'm also photographer, professional one right now and I would like to help in that, if you haven't got anyone yet who is taking pictures or making promotional posters and stuff.
Recently me and my girlfriend (we're both photographers), we worked on a small homemade Robin advertising photos for fun, here you can check it out (Ybok Photography: Robin: a lonely place of dying)
I'm interested in help on taking pictures and making the promotional images, I really like that. The main problem is that right now I can't fly over there, its very hard for both of us or me alone. So if you think of any way I can help, I'll try to help one way or another.

Thanks and good luck :)!!

Re: Batman Live Action Fan Series. Any interest?

I really wish I could help out more and offer help with the filming background but unfortunately I have no experience. So far it looks great though, keep it up!

Re: Batman Live Action Fan Series. Any interest?

I mistook your project as just a set of shorts with a bit of continuity. I am now understand that you want to establish your own telling of the Batman story.
So I now understand how you were laying out the story. Sorry for miss understanding your project.

I was thinking it over, and I am kind of on a spray foam kick.
A better choice to make a batcave would be inch think bricks of foam. Then you can carve the details into it real quick, and paint it up.

Re: Batman Live Action Fan Series. Any interest?

HI! this is a really ambitious undertaking. as an actor i can attest to the hard work of something simple like a trailer, that still takes weeks even if it's done guerrilla style. take a look at The Hunted. they are fan submitted web series and they have a lot of helpful tips on creating a webisode. also i would definitely HIGHLY RECOMMEND getting a fight choreographer!!! and not just a martial artist friend that you happen to know, but someone who knows SAFETY and choreographing for FILM/TV. please take care of your actors by at least talking to someone in a group like The Society of American Fight Directors | The Society of American Fight Directors. i do fight choreography on the east coast and will happily point you in the direction of someone close who can help you out. plus i do a lot of voice over work and would be more than willing to volunteer my services that way. just pm me!

Thanks :) Even though we are a couple thousand miles away, I think that there may be some ways you could help, particularly with trying to capture the light, as well as doing the promo art (God bless the internet!), I'll keep you on the list of people to contact when things get going.

I really wish I could help out more and offer help with the filming background but unfortunately I have no experience. So far it looks great though, keep it up!

Thanks! I've read a lot up on screenwriting, so this is probably the most I know about any of the actual process, hopefully I'll know a bit more than that when it comes to filming this.

Both ideas are good, and would probably work well for a dark underground cavern (like the animated series), but I'm not sure if it's going to be like an actual cave, or if it will be more of an underground bunker (like on tdk) or a lone concrete pillar/platform in the middle of darkness (achieved by building a base out of plywood, then adding a stone spray texture over it). But it's still kind of up in the air on that one.

I'll be checking out the links, I definitely can agree with you, that there's nothing more important than safety, when the time comes to shoot the teaser/promo whatcha ma call it, then I'll definitely pm you about that. Thanks for the advice and the links!

Re: Batman Live Action Fan Series. Any interest?

===EPISODE OVERVIEW UPDATE===

Alright, here's the episode 2 overview, I'm a bit unsure about all of it right now and may do some more work on it, but here's it at the moment.
We see Batman and Robin on a roof, overlooking the city. Robin talks about the mayor's daughter and how it sometimes feels go to be the good guy.

EPISODE 2:
"The Laugh's On You!"

Bruce walks in on Dick training, he's angry that he isn't stronger than he is, he rants about his abilities and Bruce tries to tell him grateful for what he has and use it. Dick blows him off and leaves the gym.
Two men walk down an alley, they talk to each other, one mentions there's a new guy in town offering jobs to anyone that's willing to kill. They discuss it more as the round a corner. One guy tells the other he doesn't know anymore than where to go to sign up, then they end their talk.
We see the whites of batman's eyes as they pass, but the men don't notice they are not alone. After they are gone Batman steps out of the shadows. Robin walks up behind Batman. Robin wonders why Batman is investing so much time into the rumour of someone called "The Joker". Batman's hunch is that he's no laughing matter.
In a middle class district a woman barges into a home with two guards outside the door. She fumes as she goes into her husband's office. She begins yelling at him, threatening to leave him. He's turned in his chair away from him. After there is silence she goes to yell in his face, she turns the chair and beholds a corpse. Killed by laughing gas.
Joker enters the room and tells her what he did to her husband, and that he'll do the same to her if she doesn't give him the keys to the water works. She tries to run, but he catches her. After sadisticlly telling her the symptoms she'll have because of the gas, she breaks down and tells him where they are at.
As he is about to leave, he puts down a small little package on the floor. The tune pop goes the weasel plays, then a small fume of greenish gas is released. The woman screams and the men rush in. Joker slits the throat of the first man and throws the knife into the second's throat. He pulls it out and leaves the house. A car zooms up to the house and he calmly gets inside as they take off.
The next day it's in all of the headlines, as Bruce and Dick watch the tv Dick tries to loosen the air by asking "Well, aren't you going to say I told you so?" Bruce ignores the joke and heads to the batcave.
In an old shipping warehouse a few men stand guard around a parked semi. Everything is earily quite. Out of the silence comes a chattering sound. all of the men around the truck come to attention, the sound comes from around a few stacks of barrels, they draw their weapons and wait for the sound to come into view.
Out from behind the barrels comes a pair of wind-up of chattering teeth with feet. Some of the guards look confused, others nervous. One of them shoots his comrades dead in their backs one after another before they can react.
The Joker slinks into sight from behind the barrels, he skips over to the chattering teeth and kicks it out of sight. Then he turns to the lone gunman.
"Okay! Okay! I did what you said, please, please don't kill my wife!"
Joker calmly walks by him.
Quickly, Joker draws a pistol and levels it with the gunman's head.
"Say hi to her for me."
Boom. The lone gunman falls dead. With a smirk on his face he unlatches the semi trailer door, revealing several black sealed barrels. On the sides of them are labels with health hazard signs.
Scene cuts, Joker climbs into the cab, shaking something off of his gloves, he slams the driver door of the semi and begins to driving off, leaving all of the corpses behind all with a smile all drawn on from their own blood.
Gordon stands on the roof of the Gotham Police department with a worried face. The batsignal is on. Gordon is pacing, he goes to turn around and standing there is batman and robin, instead of shock, Gordon is furious.
He holds a newspaper up to batman's face. Through a heated debate, we learn how dangerous the chemicals are, and that there is dozens of people being killed by the Joker, when asked what connects them, they all lead to engineers and the waterworks.
Batman leaves to investigate the last crime scene, telling Robin to go to the batcave and try to find out who the Joker really is.
After a unsuccesful (and slightly humorous) attempt at finding the Joker's identity, Robin decides to leave the cave and stake out the waterworks without telling Batman.
After finding more smiling corpses in by the waterworks Robin investigates further in to the complex. Robin finds the poison and is about to alert batman when The Joker knocks him out.
Joker takes over a news channel and tells Gotham of their doom, his lunacy is clearly depicted as he does an imitation of what's in store for them, also he pionts out that he has robin, and finally, the only way he will not poison the water is if Gotham gives up the batman to him.
News futage of riots at gotham hq people demanding batman's identity.
Batman is distraught, but is in control, Alfred confirms the location of Joker's hideout (waterworks) and Batman is off.
Batman sneeks into the hideout, he takes out some of Joker's goons guarding the pipes using distractions (radio), after beating up more goons, Joker confronts batman face to face. Batman is cautios, demanding Robin's return, Robin is revealed, chained to a large amount of explosives, batman knocks the trigger away from Joker and begins another fight, During the schuffle the timer is triggered for the explosives, Joker is stronger than Batman anticipated and takes more skill than before thought.
After Batman deals with Joker, he sets out to disarm the bomb. Joker is unable to escape (being tied up), but taunts batman while he disarms the bomb, telling him of all of the deaths that there will be, and how everyone will just die laughing.
Batman defuses the bomb, which reveals a small comic looking bomb inside which has been triggered, this one without any means of diarmement.
With time running out, batman rips the bomb out and hurls it into Gotham River, exploding, but without despensing the toxin.
"So what, you may have stopped me now, but they'll all get what they deserve one day or another, I mean, it's not like you're going to kill me (laughs)." Joker
Batman holds Joker over the edge of the water.
"Go on, try it, make my day." Joker
Batman throws Joker back onto the ground. Joker breaks into hysterical laughs as batman unties the loosely concience and severely beaten Robin.
The police arrive as Batman gets Robin to safety.

A heavy iron door opens and Selina Kyle walks into a dark room with several tv moniters on, all of them playing white noise.
In a large chair we see the silhoete of a man.
"Did you get the weapons?"
"Signed, sealed, and delivered."
"And the batman?"
"Impressive."
"Is that you're proffessional or personal opinion, Ms. Kyle?"
Kyle purrs to herself.
"Both, just glad I'm not the one out to kill him."
"That will be all Ms. Kyle."
"Surrrrre." she purs as she leaves.
Through the flicker we can see the man smile sinisterly.
