Batman Cowl---Neal Adams FIRST PULL IN BLUE

I actually started the sculpt for this back in October, but various projects (and life) got in the way.

Here's the sculpt:

And finally, the first pull:

I've been a fan of Neal Adams' Batman since I was a kid, so I've always wanted to do one. The longer ears are more of a challenge to mold, so I stuck to shorter eared cowls at first. After I successfully did a 39 cowl, I figured it was time.

I'm really happy with this cowl---fits my 24" head just right. I'll try to get some pix of me wearing it this weekend.

AWESOME cowl dude!! I've never been a fan of the shorter ears, as it reminds me of Adam West style Batman, but now that I think about it, the shorter ears are, realistically (as Batman is supposed to be) much more practical.

Tyler, I kind of like both ear lengths for different reasons. The shorter ears seem more practical, while the longer ears have more of a supernatural aspect, if that makes any sense.

Batpiriss, I'm a big fan of the texture on the 89 cowl, so I tend to make my cowls with some kind of texture. I like my Batman a bit grittier and less glossy!:lol

Here's a few shots of me wearing it---and yes, I'm still a proud member of the SGB (Society of Goateed Batmen). :lol I'll take it down to a stubble when I wear this for real, and I'll add eye black as well.

Next up: paint this sucker blue!

I was able to paint the first pull blue today:

Then I did this in photoshop, kind of quick and dirty, but enough to get the idea:

Personally, I don't think I'd go for the black face---I tend to prefer all black anyway. But if somebody wanted one that seemed a little more kid-friendly and reminiscent of Adam West or some of the animated versions, it might work.

What material are they cast in?

Also, who is the manufacturer of those materials.

Thanks! The cowl is made of latex, which came from Monstermakers. I used their 'Black Bat' mask making latex, which comes pre-tinted a nice black. After taking the pix of it as a black cowl, I then painted it blue so people could see what that looked like.

Very nice! It looks awesome in both blue and black.

And I agree about bearded batman. I think an entire costume and mythos could be formed around this concept, cuz really, why can't batman have a beard?!?
