Hey guys, long time lurker of this site, and big fan of all the hardwork and skill i've seen go into a lot of these projects.

I'll cut to the chase and say that I'm looking to make a simple cloth ( possible massive understatement) Batman costume, I have the cape and the suit worked out but I'm lost on the cowl, I wanted to know if anyone here has ever made a cloth batman cowl from like a ninja mask or balaclava, or if anyone had a tutorial on how to sew one or modify a ninja mask. I was messing around with one I have, and i thought heck if i cut some decent eyes into this and put some ears on the side (somehow) this would be a pretty sweet batman cowl, I am a total newbie who happens to have to fortune of great and talented friends who can sew the **** of anything. The look i wanted to go for was something like YEAR ONE batman, any ideas or tips would be very much appreciated :)
it would be awesome after all my years of loving the character to finally get to be Batman for halloween

No one ever answered this eh? I'm kinda in the same boat. So I'm going ot bump it.

I am looking to build a superhero cowl, but it's idealy made with foam, or cloth... The character is for a run of webisodes, and it''s a self created character....

Something along the line of 60's West Batman in ideal... but less shiny, heh.

Any pointers?

I haven't done it, but it seems to me you would need to mold it out of something more rigid, and then cover it with cloth. Kind of like upholstered car interiors. Without that I don't think you'll be able to keep it in place or get the little bat ears.

Plus this will bump this to the front again, and maybe someone will now post just to prove me wrong.

I don't know how good of an idea it would be but perhaps a leather base covered in cloth? I know there is a instructable about a Gotham by Gaslight cowl that you can maybe mod and get the effect you need.

I couldn't find the exact one I saw but maybe you can follow the concept of the guy in the following link and try it that way. The leather is on Tandy but people sell it on ebay too for pretty good prices, it seems the tools would be the biggest expense.

Someone on brotherhood of the bat run board forum made an all leather cowl, it might be worth going over there and searching him out for advice.

You may mean me? That was 1000 years ago but I may have my "how to" around someplace if someone still wants it?

That may have been me. I just finished up an all leather cowl. I posted a similar thread here on the RPF http://www.therpf.com/f24/batman-comic-style-costume-leather-cowl-finished-page-3-a-169356/index3.html

It's fairly explanatory of what I did to make it, but I'd be happy to go over specifics with you.
You did it over a lifecast of your face. That's what I was trying to get at. AZspidey did something more of what I had in mind in his Video Game Deadpool thread. http://www.therpf.com/f24/video-game-style-deadpool-mask-177060/
