Hi. I am a puppet builder and Barney Fan since birth. I have always dreamed of building my own Barney The Dinosaur costume but don't know where I would start. Does anyone hear have advice. I am looking to build one of these. I have not decided yet but I am leaning towards the one in the classroom

Thanks,
Gabriel

If you do an on-line research for "how to make a mascot costume" you will get some good starting points. You can then refine your searches to "mascot dinosaur head", mascot feet". etc.

I work at Disneyland and we have many character costumes that have that general overall shape.

I have no idea what the internal structure is, but there might be resources online from people who have replicated those costumes.

I found these photos from @oriandagger on instagram

I would start with getting the basic measurements down first. Once you have that, you can an easier time putting the pieces together to create the overall shape!

Crazy idea - Find a good stuffed plush Barney that you like the shape of. Dissect him at the seams, Lay out the pieces & trace, then Blow up the patterns to the size you need. Should be able to figure the multiplcation factor by measuring the doll before vivisection!

Even with that paunch, I'd still wear a groin cup and steel toe boots underneath-pads too. Little kids are punchy. I saw one baseball player tackle a mascot once. A tween girl was in it. Once I saw a photo of a guy in a Xenomorph suit holding a smiling baby. Googlie-eyes or a mall santa would likely have it shrieking-santa likely invoking an ancestral memory of bearded druids with the kid on a slab. Sorry about the stream of conciousness.
