Hello everyone! This is my first thread on the RPF and I am very excited to be posting! Last week I gave myself a project to make a costume of Bane Malar, he is a character that was supposed to be in ROTJ as an extra. Unfortunately, his scene was cut, or he was just never even used. The good news is, there is still enough reference material out there to make the costume and have it be fairly accurate! My goal is to finish my costume by late September so I can wear it to my local convention. Considering the fact that I will be the first person to create a costume of this character, I felt that it would be important for me to make a thread on this site. Any way, here are the images that I found that are usable for reference:
Yep... That's it. As you can tell, this is a very obscure character. My first step was to buy the helmet. I spent a while searching, and eventually I realized that it would be impossible to find the exact model name of the helmet. Even if I could, it would be impossible to find one for sale. One thing that I did notice was that the visor on the helmet had no hinge. This led me to believe that the prop was a modified bubble-shield helmet. They were pretty common throughout the 70's and 80's, and that fit the time period that the movies were made in. After some searching, I found one that was pretty similar for sale for $50. I bought it, and the first thing I did was remove the bubble-shield from the helmet.
This is the stage that I'm at now. I will be working on the costume throughout the summer and I will try my best to make frequent updates. I hope that all of you will enjoy this project as much as I (hopefully) will!
