Avp X Files Connection

i was wondering if anyone knew of a connection between aliens vs predator and the x files. the reason i ask is because i was watching avp the other night and noticed the ship that takes the crew to the waling station at the start of the film is called the piper maru. which was also the name of a similar ship in an episode of the x files which is also stationed in the arctic.and i know that the writers of the x files named the ship and the episode after gillian andersons daughter piper maru.this is hardley a coincidence is it?

Referencing this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piper_Maru page gives the answer.  "The 2004 film Alien vs. Predator featured an icebreaker named the Piper Maru, the naming of the ship being a nod to this episode".  Then again, it is only Wikipedia, so take it for what it's worth.  Both coming from Fox though, I wouldn't doubt it's true.
