a suggestion if i might,

get some leather straps and some small beads or skulls, wrap them in hemp rope around those areas not only cosmetic but functional in helping you support the blades.

Great prop for show or suiting

those who are curious to know that particular tripod, it's the Opteka 70" Full Size Professional Photo / Video Tripod cause I bought it and it's the same one int he pics. just putting it out there cause I am working on mine. =]

It is a good-looking spear, even if it's four years old. 

I made my spear by attaching two cheap collapsing "laser swords" to a handle of PVC pipe, and adding blades and decoration. It opens, but doesn't close--a limitation I have rectified in fan films by opening it and then running the footage backwards.
