I saw it today? Out of the park? Off into the bloody stratosphere is more apt.
Ever since X-men and Spiderman came out, what, back in 2000-2001, apart from the odd turkey, us comic book fans have been so spoilt (by Marvel, that is).
I still say though Hellboy is the best comic book movie ever.

certain pieces of info have come out in the last few weeks pointing that way though, such as this Guy Pearce Up for Iron Man 3 Role | Superhero Hype and i'd expect they'd tweak a large chunk of it or combine it with another storyline as well as Extremis has influenced a lot of the last 2 movies.
but just got back from my second viewing and i'm thinking its just hulk making Banner pick up the spear, before he changes at the end he says "I'm always angry" so it could be he experiences moments where he's not in control but most of the time he is.
oh and "doth your mother know that you weareth her drapes?"

Just saw the movie this morning (midnight show). An awesome movie, definitely worth the hype and truly enjoyable. I just couldn't help feeling that Cap was kinda overshadowed by all the others though. :rolleyes
But one nice thing was near the end where he saves the people stuck in the building. One of the waitresses sees him without his mask while she is being helped outside. You can see her face and I don't know if she thinks she recognizes him or if she's simply infatuated, but it seems to me like that scene was deliberately put there. I first thought she was related to Agent Peggy Carter from the Captain America movie. I know that Agent 13 (Sharon Carter) is supposed to be Peggy's niece from the comics, so could this "Ruth" (her name tag is shown at the end while being interviewed, and she actually mentions wanting to be able to thank Captain America in person) be actually Peggy's daughter or grandaughter? Or is this a long shot?

I think I'm the only one that didn't love this movie. Seeing this is the spoiler thread, I'll mention a few scenes that just didn't work for me:
1) Agent (Phil) Paulson's death: How doesn't the death of 80 people in two days get the Avengers together, but the death of Agent Paulson (at best a marginal character) does? While he was a constant in the other movies, he was never an important character. In this movie he just met Cap and Banner. While he knew Black Widow and Hawkeye, we never knew how well. He was a marginal character in the movie Thor. The only Avenger his death would have had an impact on was Tony Stark. The only reasons he was killed off was to make room for Agent Hill.
Loki: C'mon, he's a GOD. How can Hulk even grab him (remember, Thor gets suckered by an illusion of Loki earlier in the movie?), much less beat the crap out of him? Why do Selvig and Hawkeye just stand there and let Loki touch them with his staff?
Thor arriving back on earth: At the end of "Thor" he was unable to get back to earth, watching Jane Foster from afar, but in this movie he's able to get to earth to get Loki back.
Pepper Potts: Not sure why she was even in the movie. She just had a few scenes with a few throw away lines.
The aliens: Forgettable, overly designed, mindless killing machines. Just boring.
The argument between the Avengers in the lab: seemed forced, awkward. It was unclear why they were mad at each other. Was it the staff, was it because they found out Shield's plans for the cube? The fact viewers have to wonder about the reason is a problem.
Black Widow bargaining with Loki: Man, that was just hard to watch. It was far from convincing.
Did I hate the movie? No, but I really expected more.

Man this really sucks. One of my best friends, who has been a huge comic fan has been looking forward to this film forever. He's been in the marines most of his life and the one thing he was looking forward to was seeing this film before he went back to Afghanistan.....He just got sent back over last week.

hmm i dont think coulson died realy, fury talks about his cards and that they needed a little push i think this will be in the post credit scene.
and every thing works in this movie, if you are already complaining about those things how can you ever watch a movie normal? i can name 100 things in every movie that are not right.
and that thor comes back is because of the dark magic the alvader uses that's what they say in the movie! i think it's possible to do it but has consequences.

I'm pinning my hopes on Couldon being a Life Model Decoy...
He's a great character, and had a meaningful connection with the other characters (minus Banner).
Stark likes him enough to offer to fly him to Portland to see the celloist (gotta keep love alive)
Thor ran into him before, and has a respect for him as he got Jane Foster to a place of safety. Plus, he was killed trying to save Thor.
Captain America has the whole 'fan boy, man crush' thing. He'll want to 'avenge' his death.
So yeah, Coulsons death was the push they needed.
