Avatar Grenade build

Been anticipating the movie Elysium and have been very impressed with Aaron Becks Designs from Avatar and Elysium. Have been a lover of grenades and decided to start off my Sci fi collection of grenades by building the fragmentation grenade from Avatar using ABS drain pipe.

By no means accurate just a fun project for myself, started with a good size ABS drain coupler fitting with a circumference of 178.5mm then added a reducer to the bottom. then I made a plate with which to scribe the hexagons onto the piece. I did this by dividing 178.5 into 15 then breaking the hexagon into triangles to lay my pattern down.

First part done, not sure if there are 10 or 12 hexagons staggered around the body but ill live with it.
Will smooth out and eliminate the seam, perhaps lengthen the base as well.

Hi all, been a few years since the start of this thread but decided to finish this after some fails at making the "Spoon" of this grenade. I decided to learn Autodesk 123d and made it 3D printed from Shapeways instead. Thought I would share some photos.

Cheers!

A few or our members made some of the weapons seen in Avatar (flame-thrower, gun-ship tri-machine gun, etc) but you're the first to tackle one of the grenade.
Really good job (love the use of the ABS pipe. Good for you for having learned to use a 3D application. The results are Pro-Job for sure!
