Attaching the QMx Star Trek Insignia to the Anovos shirts..

Hi all..

Just had a discussion with a friend of mine and thought I'd ask here as well about the different methods people have come up with to attach the QMx insignia pins onto the Anovos shirts?

We'd talked about perhaps taking the pins off and using a magnet to hold the badge in place? Anyone have any other decent ideas that work? Or is piercing the shirt fine? (I was worried about the weight of the pin and the holes really...Since the Anovos shirts are rather lovely..I wouldn't want to damage them...)..

Any thoughts? Photos would be warmly appreciated too!

Thanks all!

I cut off the pins and glued on rare earth magnets with JB Weld. Works really well.

Heya Risu...

Nice to see a fellow Indy-man over here!

Yeah, I was wondering about gluing the magnets onto the shirt..Do you find it weighs the shirt down a lot? Or it's ok to carry?

Thanks for the input mate!

Oh no, misunderstanding, the magnets don't get glued to the shirt at all. You glue two magnets to the badge where the pins used to be, then while holding the badge in the correct place on the shirt, you place two magnets inside so they clamp down onto the shirt fabric. I used magnets that were 1/4" x 1/4" x 1/16" and they hold perfectly. The badge is light enough aluminum that it doesn't pull down at all.

Ah! Cool...Yes, that was what my friend had suggested as an idea.......I've not seen the QMx pins just yet (Mine is shipped, but not here yet), but I'm glad to know they're not overly heavy... I was wondering about that and the magnet weight weighing it all down...

I think your idea is what I'll try out....Have to figure out how to find rare-earth magnets in Japan, but that shouldn't be too hard..

Sorry to ask but do you have a photo of how it looked when the badge was held in place?

Didn't take any pics at the premiere because my Anovos shirt had terrible stitching. It looks just like the movie, though. I got my magnets from kjmagnetics.com, they might ship to Japan.

Cool magnet shop! I've been looking for one like that in Japan, but it's not been so easy to find that range of shapes....Which ones did you run with? I'm thinking the thinnest possible and about a nickel size?

What do you think?

?????????????????????????????????

Just found a decent one here in Japan actually...That'll save on postage for me some...I'll be able to judge the sizes needed once the pin arrives, but I'd still be interested in hearing what you went with and why....

It'll give me a good guide to run with....I think the thinnest they have on the Japanese site is 0.5mm thickness...Varying diameters so that's ok I think...Any ideas about what should work best?

Warm regards (And thanks for all the help mate)..

I mentioned it up above, I used two pairs of 1/4" x 1/4" x 1/16" magnets. They hold very well, but I'm not sure I would recommend going thinner/ weaker than that.

Ok...So this is what I've ended up with....I tried it with only two magnets on first, but didn't like the thin legs appearance, so added a magnet onto that side as well for a total of three....

Here it is with the two magnets in the pin position..

Then I added the third..

This is the front with all three magnets on..

And the "worst" angle/aspect it has (Due to my chest's shape...I could bend the badge..But don't have the tools to do it smoothly..So..Probably best left alone..)

Oh...And just for kicks...Here's what I think I'll wear over the shirt when the film is (finally!!) released here in Japan...

Or this maybe?

I like the Next Gen version....

The shirt arrived tonight! So I added my badge to it! I think it works brilliantly!

Close up on the badge.....

And the whole thing! (Sorry about the arms length photos...No one on hand now to take the shot for me!)
