attaching scope mount for ESB Han Solo blaster.

Hello,

I'm about to attach my scope mount to my denix. I know that I should use the tap and be very very careful with it, but I have the following questions:

1. I don't have a drill press, nor do I have access to one. Is it absolutely necessary to use a drill press to drill the initial hole in the side of the denix?

2. Can I use an ordinary drill bit to drill the hole? I.E. I'm using a 1/4-inch screw, can I use my black & decker 1/4-inch drill bit?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hey there :)

You don't need a drill press just two or three bits. Standard bits are fine--Denix metal is very soft. My advice would be to locate your drilling point with a punch then drill a pilot hole with 1/16" bit, then move up to 1/8" if you like (I usually skip this step myself), and then up to something like a 13/64" bit--not 1/4" if you intend to tap the hole.

Ideally you want a hole that is the same diameter as the middle part of the bolt (the minor diameter--the center part that isn't threaded). This will allow room for the tap and threads to bite into the metal of the Denix.

Hope that makes sense!

I agree, this is a very simple thing to do and you won't find it a problem.

Good luck and I hope we get to see some pictures when you're done?

Do I need to tap the screws for the greeblies on the other side as well? I suppose I do.

Excellent advice and encouragement, gentlemen. Thanks much.
