Ascension (SyFy Series)

Nah, I'd have ended it with the crew of Ascension finding out they're still on Earth. But, they're told by the guy running the program that there's an asteroid coming to Earth in a year that will wipe out all life on Earth. The planet killer asteroid was detected 60+ years ago and has been on an elliptical course bringing it closer and closer to Earth each pass. They've been training in a simulator, and now need to crew the real Ascension that is a bit bigger for more people and is finally ready to take them to Mars for Terraforming there. The experiment has been performed to tweak the environment and needs of the ship, which didn't actually have a level of technology necessary yet to actually survive on Mars but now they're ready to go. End it with Ascension taking off.

And there'd have been none of the psychic stuff.

It was interesting, but I do not think I would watch a whole season. At most another mini series to wrap up a few loose threads.

We just watched this. and liked it

I'm surprised no one picked up in the dual use of the word ascension

My husband and I just finished watching this last night and I have to say I enjoyed it quite a bit. I thought the relationship between Tricia Helfer's Viondra and her husband was particularly well done; they were both complex and well written and I particularly enjoyed how they were, in fact, a team even when it seemed like they were falling apart.

When "Ensign Water Reclamation" asked her for orders, that look of 'oh ****' turning to resolve and decisive action prompted my husband to say "Tricia Helfer for the next Star Trek captain!" I personally agree. She's a much better actor than most people give her credit for. She obviously learned a lot from the heavyweights she was working with on BSG.

A bit late for the party, but damn, Gault is screwed.

Agreed. I finally watched this last night. Gault should be dead. They kept talking about the need to terraform the planet yet Gault gets teleported to this planet without a suit and is magically able to breathe. I was pretty let down by that. I enjoyed it otherwise.

The girl did say the planet they were heading to held only death, so maybe she sent Gault to the other planet the one she said they should go to instead.

Or maybe he is on some giant stage that is another part of the complex the ship is in, because what is supposed to happen in another 50 years when they are due to land?

A self contained space ship for people to live in is one thing, setting up a soundstage for another planet? That's a bit ambitious for the government to do.
