Arc Reactor Mark 1

With over 2 years of work on this project, it is reaching it's final stages. I started with few refernce pictures and went on designing a prop reactor that could be worn, or placed into a suit. It would hold the LED lights inside the clear ring to hide them but still light the ring. After the 2d drawings were complete, I moved on to get the prototype laser cut out of acrylic plastic. I used that prototype to help refine the final model you see here. I plan to have each piece 3d printed and cast them, still allowing for a total of 15 LEDs and perhaps an arduino controller. Let me know what you think!

both projects look great!

(and I love playing with Arduino stuff!) haha..

what is the 'red stuff'? with the white 'core'? foam board? (painted sintra?)

also..what did you use for the big/main frosted ring piece?

Yea....I need to change my name lol. Its all acrylic. To give that clear frosted look I just sanding it down with some 400grit paper.

That's nice , I have spent a year trying to get stuff machined and waterjet cut parts, I know how time consuming it is gathering all your parts so that you may begin building....outstanding work...looking forward to seeing your build in the near future....will be watching....congrats....

Thanks guys! Got the final render and everything sorted out, I also got an arduino kit so ill be fooling with that. Found a tiny chip online, maybe ill program the lights to flicker on then slowly fade in and out. I also made this up real quick. WALLPAPERARCMK1BLD2 copy.jpg

what 'tiny chip' are talking about? ATtiny?

You can use those with Arduino compatible circuits..etc..

it only has a FEW I/O's though... (not sure how PWM's either)

probably have to fade all those leds using a transistor/mosfet and an Arduino pin to toggle the 'gate'..etc..

nice render!
