Arc Reactor 1.0 Proof Tony Stark Has A Heart!

Since seeing Ironman, I knew I would have to try and build the arc reactor and I finally started.

Right now, I am just trying to figure out all the elements and how they work together. Size, levels, lighting, etc.

I'm not too pleased with my first attempt at wire wrapping, and I might be a bit too small (the Proof ring has an outer diameter of 4.75") but overall, I think the shapes are working.

Now all that's left is to figure out everything!!:lol

This is going to be a combination of lasered, cnc'ed, found items and who knows what else.

Looks really good so far, great job, cant wait to see more progress on the project!!!

Re: Arc Reactor 1.0

Keep it up, bro! That's an awesome start!!! (y)thumbsup:thumbsup

Re: Arc Reactor 1.0

looks great so far and the wire work is good too, dont be do hard on yourself

I agree completely! It looks really damn good so far!

Wire wrapping of those looks perfect, although I hope there might be an option for ones self to do it down the road (to save on labor cost?)

I look forward highly to seeing the stages of this build, looks studio perfect so far like I've mentioned respectfully.

Re: Arc Reactor 1.0

Little bit of a reboot on this. I wasn't real happy with the way I was trying to build this up. I was using multiple layers of laser-cut plex, but I have now switched it up for cnc'ed, thick plex.

I haven't found a plex with the proper green "safety glass" look, so my plan is to mold the base ring and then cast it in clear with green tint.

If anyone has any pics of this thing at a Con or anywhere, that they would be willing to share it would be much appreciated.

I'll be going for the fully lit, in the case version.:love

Re: Arc Reactor 1.0

great work.

i have a question could it be that the coils came from a breaker?

Re: Arc Reactor 1.0

John, how is this coming along?

I think the cnc route was definitely the way to go on this. So would you cast that piece in clear resin or do you have another idea as to how you will do it?

Re: Arc Reactor 1.0

Thanks guys. I've slowed down a bit on this, but it will be moving along soon.

I've gotten info from someone that this version might be too small, but I'm still waiting on confirmation. I'm not sure my source is right, I'm using the pics below with the assumption that the glass for the case is .25" thick. I've also been sizing images of RD Jr. with the piece. My outer ring of the arc is 3.5"

What do you think?

I'm sure the coils came from something off the shelf, but it seems quicker to just fabricate them. Saves the search time and I'm sure they will fit with other the other parts.

Bryan, I plan on using alumilites clear cast and tinting it to get the right look. Unless, I find a plex with the correct tint and thick enough.
