Aqua Resin vs Fiberglass Resin

Okay, this maybe a dumb question but i'm going to ask it anyway. Will fiberglass resin do the same job as aqua resin?

Can you be a little more specific with your question? i have done A LOT if research and experimentation w fiberglass resins and fabric/fibers over the last couple of years on my batmobile project, and may be able to offer some advice.

Can you give an idea of what your application is? How are you going to use it? Is it something that will be load bearing? Will it be under stress? Do you need it to last a long time? Will you be pouring the resin, or brushing? Will you be using fiber, or just the resin?

Also, what do you mean by "aqua" resin? Do you mean resin designed for marine use, like on boat hulls??

My general rule of thumb for fiberglass products is this: you get what you pay for. If youre buying the cheap stinky stuff at home depot, you will get cheap stinky results. Lol. The more expensive epoxy resins, like the stuff west system makes, are far stronger, more resilient, and have far less odor. But they cost a lot more

I've used Aqua-Resin before. It claims it can be used with fiberglass, but I've always used it as a filler and coating, and the consistency is much closer to Bondo. You might be able to thin it out so it's closer to fiberglass resin.

I'd also love to know if anyone has done any direct comparisons between fiberglass resin and any of the newer water-based resins like Aqua-Resin. I'm always looking to use less toxic materials.

yes you can use it with fiberglass as an alternative to polyester resin. Its not quit as strong but it is non toxic so you can even use it in you living room ;)

I have used Aqua Resin ( Jesmonite in the UK) and it's virtually the same as GRP in use ( apart from the fact that it's non toxic) although the finished pieces do turn out a little heavier. I would recommend it, if it wasn't so expensive compared to GRP
