Applying latex to a muscle suit?!

My eyes are bleeding from looking through the archives to find a matter on best ways to apply latex to a hero muscle suit- my last attempt left the arms creased and the latex dried with drips in it etc all over the chest, so my pred would have ended up looking like some kind of rabid leper.........
Anyone found a good way to apply it evenly? Was maybe thinking sponge? Or that gona take ages?? Help, Im a muppet with a cause

Yep. Cut some custom sponges from some 2" upholstery foam. Make the sponges about 2" x 3" so that you can cover the suit faster.

You can get the foam from any upholstery supplier or check your local thrift store for it.

I used a mini roller, a smaller version of the paint rollers you can get from B&Q, I got mine from tescos, and a couple of the foam roller inserts. Did a nice even coat. Though for my pred skin I used a sponge and thick latex I stippled it on and gor a nice skin texture.

Make a duck tape dummy of your self and put the suit onto it. Latex will shrink and it is good to have some behind it. This will give it something to shrink to. I lay the dummy and suit on a table. Then I pour a pile of latex on the center of the chest area and pull or roll the latex up and down the suit with latex coated brush or roller (not Dry). I like the roller better then the brush, I find it gives a more even coat. You can give the suit texture by slapping the foam brush up against the latex to stipple it. I do one side at a time while it is lying down. When standing up straight I find the latex likes to roll down or drip and make drip patterns down lower on the suit.

I just got an air gun for latex yesterday to apply latex into molds and body suits. I wanted a more even coat and less brush and roller marks.

Marvellous!! All very much appreciated. My next one however is: has anyone had an issue with the said superhero muscle suits, in the arms department? My beef with the suit is when wearing the suit, before Ive even done any latexing, that I cant even reach my nose to scratch it, bugger all arm movement, the arms are that badly designed, anyone had this problem? I was thinking of cutting it, re-stitching it etc, but Im not sure how difficult it would be, and if it would or wouldnt make it worse, anyone tried it?

One option is to wrap yourself with saran wrap and put on the suit. If the suit has foam muscles it's even better. Use a 4" long foam trim roller to apply the latex. This way you'l get smooth even coats that can dry well without being to thick and runny. Get someone to help do the back of the costume first and then do the front working your way up. You can use a fan to keep some fresh air blowing on your face instead of the ammonia fumes. A hair dryer can help speed the drying time but don't keep it in any one area too long. Just keep the roler in the latex between coats so the latex doesn't dry on the roller. Keep the bucket of latex covered so the ammonia doesn't evaporate.

Oops I misread the thread.

Cusion foam works to fill the arms so the fill a little better. The suit was made to fit a small to large sized person. The smaller person kinda loses in size department. You can all so cut the inside seam to pull it closer and over lap the seam to the back. You can glue the arm to an under shirt and then to the torso. Then latex over that to make a joint in the two pieces.

Cutting it is a faily good option, but depending on how stretchy the material is it'll be a bugger to seam properly. If you do slice it under the armpits, you might want to stitch in some mesh material so that you at least get some air wafting around under the pits so you get a little ventilation.

Cool thanks for all the advice, most welcome. However Im actually really after anyone who has used the batman/superman cheap muscle fancy dress costumes and then latexed it. Just I dont seem to be able to move my arms further up than my nipples and outwards as high as my belly button (ok slight exaggerration) but anyone with one of these ( and this is all before latexing) will, I hope, know what I mean. How did anyone combat this? I can not go on like this, A predator that can not wipe its own arse would be truly embarrassing.............

Hey Mortal,
If you don't mind, where did you get that page of the body suit assembley? Your's or from a book or.......? Looks like it would have some good info.
