Anyone have the AA ST: TOS phaser?

I just saw one at my local Hastings, has a removable phaser 2, dual power settings, etc.
I was wondering how accurate it is and what it's quality is like. It's priced @ $30, wanted to get a better idea of it's quality/accuracy before I purchased it.

It also looks a tad small?

It is a super nice toy phaser. It was taken from the HMS TOS Phaser, it is a tad small but not bad at all. Great phaser for kicking around and playing with. I'd get it for the electronics if nothing else, you could never find multiple sounds and LED for $30 on a phaser.

I have several of them, both holes filled and repainted. However, this exact phaser was used on Enterprise as a TOS Phaser. So to that it is 100% screen accurate.

Hmmm...a tad small you say? And for a kick-around type item, I already have the Playmates Phasrer from waaaaaaaay back in '95.

But this has a removable P2 and a working dial on top of it. I'm going to have to think this over.

Oh, it's TONS nicer than the Playmates one. I don't think you'd be unhappy with it.

in my opinion, the AA phaser is the best bang for the buck you can get. I love mine. They were only $12 when they first came out. I bought 5 of them. I would watch the news and phaser the TV. At $30, it's still a good deal. The MR will cost you a lot more.

yep i had 5 too sold them all, nice little phaser but still it was just a toy ...

I like playing with mine at home, and am going to use it for a Halloween Star Trek costume this year. I need to find another just to have a spare stuck away. :)

The AA is a great option, and with just a minor paint job, and some metal up grade parts, makes a really nice replica. Get one, you will be glad you did.

I'll sell you one of mine... only $5,000. :lol

Seriously tho, the AA, and the Rodd.com kit, and the Starland phaser that was sold before Rodd.com started out, are all based on the props that HMS made for the TOS re-creation scenes in Deep Space Nine's episode "Trials and Tribbleations".

As such they are quite nice. To reproduce the Trials look, the handle should be gray. To reproduce the Enterprise "Mirror Darkly" phaser, use the AA toy as is but add two thin strips of black Velcro to the P1, above and below the side rail. The velcro doesn't go all the way to the front of the P1, but ends about halfway along the "aspirator plate" on top, or as we call it today, the "extra crispy."

I've seen photos of AA phasers modded with metal parts, and even lasers. They build up quite nice. When you think about it, it's just a styrene phaser "kit" that's already built when you buy it. :p

The only really dissapointing features of the AA toy, are the lame "rising sight" on the p1 (totally wrong, more of a pop-up BOX than the correct plexi cylinder sight)... also the screw holes on the side of the p2 are a disappointment. You'd have to deal with those, plus correct the "bend" in the p2 side ribs, add a "rim" to the p2 side knob, sand off the texture on the p1 and repaint the entire beast. But when you're done it's pretty definiitely a phaser. :D

I'm one of the folks who stuck a working laser into one of these. Makes a great cat toy.

The AA phasers are great for the money. Really nice and can be modded as others have mentioned. Excellent "bang for the buck" value.

Cool...

What kind of laser did you use?

One of those cheapo red laser pointers.

I think that cinches it, now I just have to scrape up the $30.

Think of it this way, the AA phaser used on Enterprise auctioned off for something like five thousand dollars.
$30 bucks is practically free.
