Anyone Familiar With this Vader ROTS helmet???

Yes they can be bought new on "eBay" which, lets be honest, is still virtually second hand. Buying new for me has always meant buying from a dealer/licensed outlet etc....not an auction website....

My slightly flippant comment may have been misconstrued as a policy statement re: recasters....this is not so....i only meant in regards to this particular piece....

Still looking forward to getting this "helmet" ....hope it's not a "bag-of-spanners"

These aren't private sales from individuals they are new stock held by dealers/shops that use eBay for an outlet,if you want to be honest then just admit you're going for the cheap option and you're choosing that option for no other reason than price and it doesn't matter to you that it's a recast.
Regardless of Ebay use google you will find lots of stores with these helmets also in stock.

I hope it is a bag of spanners.

Thanks...it's nice to know there are prop collectors out there who can always afford the best of everything....

Clear skies to ya...

It's not about being able to afford something.
I'm not rich, hell i'm not even comfortably well off at present there are thing i would like that i don't have the money for, i won't go buy a recast though.

I doff my hat to your high moral standards sir.
And, believe it or not, i don't intend any sarcasm in that statement.

Thanks

Really....the entire inside? I thought just the rear flaring on the inside was smooth? They made a separate mold for that for the original.

Indeed Thomas, this is why I thought it was unusual. It seems a lot of work for recasting to double a mold for the dome when a single one would do. And it is a flawless job too.
Didn't BAT make a smooth inner dome? Not sure if his was the entire inside as this one is but his helmet was considerably more expensive.

Another thing, I inquired with the seller if he could provide the helmet unpainted, even at a future date, for the same price. He told me he was sorry but he couldn't do that, they only come painted. Rather odd.

could they be unfinished or rejects from the factory??

They come painted to hide the many flaws in the resin used , Old chips of hard resin or the crust from the bottom of the resin container was found on the surface of my faceplate after stripping for paint , Not to mention a thin Gel coat. Iv'e been patching and filling pinholes and weak spots for some time now and I'm still not finished. Also some of the paint or resin on the Dome and Face cracked during the curing process so thick paint was used to hide that as well .
If you look at the forehead on the MR Faceplate on Star Wars Helmets.com you'll see on the lefthand side a slight depression that also appears on the the recast .
If you buy one be ready to put some work into it , Mine weighs in total 9.5 pounds ..........not the best for trooping .

If I was a betting man....

And Jarvis, it wouldn't surprise me if a lot of MRs were similar, after all it was a massed produced item with problematic QC checks.
I did a thorough check of mine for weak spots/bubbles and found two. One required some reasonable force to make it's presence known and the other was inside one of the nose bridge slots.
