Anybody know anything about embroidery machines

Hi,

I was looking to do some simple embroidery just text and was wondering the types of machines available and how to use them.

I am assuming that modern embroidery machinery can hook up to a PC and images and text can be input to the PC to be embroidered.

I have no real idea where to start so any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers Chris

Wow. The world of embroidery :)

I own a Brother 2002D embroidery machine. I have to be honest though; it takes a learning experience to use these machines, and they DONT come with the software for the pc. That's extra. You need PE design for the Brothers.

The Viking machines are the same way. You can buy designs that come in "cards" or download from the 'net to a usb device.

Embroidery is done on a digitizing program (I had a heartattack at the prices) that is done on the pc and you can transfer to the machine. If you want to do patches and things, one needs to invest in the commerical machine; it lasts longer.

I hope I didn't scare you too badly. I got the urge to buy one myself, and if it hadn't been an embroider/sewing machine combo, I'd have thrown it through the wall. But I prefer the Viking Designer series over the Brother.

Ive had a Bernina machine for about 8 years now. I love the thing. It does some patch work for me and text on projects. Sure the price almost killed me, and the software took a little getting used to, but I dont regret it.
