Any Way to Fix Urethane Cowl?

I have a Janty Panther cowl, one of the super comfortable stretchy ones. It has been sitting on a display shelf in a non smoking home for about two years, NOT in a bright, sunlit room. Well, I was playing with it tonight & when I removed it from the styrofoam head, a two inch chunk just popped off from the chin area, right into my hand. Is there any way to fix this & have an undetectable repair or is this thing basically garbage now? I think I paid about $300 & waited about 6 months for it. It is the only cowl that seemd to fit so I would really like to salvage it.

Best thing to do at this point is contact Janty about it and see what he can do for you. I've never made anything out of rubber, but I do know that it's pretty hard to fix once it has ripped... of course there may be a magical trick someone has devised that will repair it, but if there is, it isn't common knowledge.

Just my 2 cents

I believe that there is either a special glue that you can get for this kind of thing, or super glue. Good luck as I honestly don't think you'll see a replacement on it, especially not after 2 years.

I think the best way to patch urethane (especially a rip) is to reinforce it with another layer of urethane latex. There are a lot of substances that don't adhere to urethane, so be sure you get all your answers before taking action.

I think you can repair it, as been mentioned, using latex, but honestly I don't think you can fix it to the point that it won't be noticeable. What a shame.

Well thanks for the replies. I'll contact smoothon & see if they have any advice. If I can't repair it then I guess I caould always trim it for a Batgirl cowl.

If you decide to go that route let me know. The girlfirend's been looking for a decent Batgirl cowl.

You can't fix urethane with latex. Those two do not mix at all. Your best bet is going to be a type of glue, or if possible, a urethane patch job. I don't think the latter will be possible though. Best of luck.

I had a silicone "flesh" cowl from DavidYR that tore in the nose, and he referred me to a Smooth-On product that miraculously, fixed the tear. Smooth-On has a great product line, I imagine Janty would be able to tell you what best to use or if he's not sure, DavidYR can answer what will help mend urethane and I'd bet it's a Smooth-On product.

Good luck!
