Any update on QMX's Mal's gun?

Just chiming in on this. I spoke with a dealer at a convention two weeks ago about the whole QMX Mal gun thing and he claimed that they had officially gone under, out of business. He carried some of their Serenity money and said he had planned to wholesale other stuff from them but had recently been told they would not be shipping any more product and that the company had failed. Don't know his name but he had a huge display with a lot of videos, T-shirts and stuff and seemed to know what he was talking about. He also commented that they had taken a lot of money for "pre-orders" that they were not going to be able to pay back. Just to let you know what the buzz is out there.

:confused

I'm hoping he didn't know what he was talking about, for all the customers' sakes.

Oh, [Da-shiang bao-tza shr duh lah doo-tze]... not that rumor again!

Can we just kill that discussion right away, please? They recently hired on "Whitefall" to do work for them and I got a reply from their customer service couple weeks ago. Also... how could people who recently cancelled their orders get their money back if they were bust? So until someone shows up with any official news to the contrary, they're still alive... if silent.

When your customers are crying out for information, going radio silent isn't necessarily the best course of action.

Dunno what the gun status is, but they're definitely not going out of business. They had a presence at Comic Con and they're coming out with more paper props soon, like the Blue Sun Travel Posters that the Southern California Browncoats had for sale at Comic Con. (Those were a limited run of pre-release copies; everyone else can preorder from TFAW.com or your preferred dealer, or buy them from QMx when they add them to their site at the official release date in a few more weeks.)

Hi all,

I'm working on a freelance basis, so I can't speak to the projects on which I'm not involved. But I CAN definately say that there's no truth to the above rumor. QMx has several projects in the pipeline, and personally, I'm pretty excited. (Also tired. And in need of moleskin for my design fingers, I've been working them so hard).

Hope that helps!

SNIP I spoke with a dealer at a convention two weeks ago about the whole QMX Mal gun thing and he claimed that they had officially gone under, out of business. SNIP

Saw the notice on Serenity Stuff a week ago about the Blue Sun Travel posters.
To paraphrase Jayne, "Pretty spry for a dead company."

This company is Browncoat friendly!
The Mal pistol is a debacle.
QMx isn't happy about the Mal pistol.
I'M not happy about the Mal pistol.
Every time QMx mentions the Mal pistol, they get crucified.
QMx doesn't want to be crucified.
QMx quit mentioning the Mal pistol.
QMx has taken to announcing only successfully realized projects.
I'm happy with QMx and the 'verse products they are releasing.
I'm willing to forgive the Mal pistol.
I expect to get my Mal pistol.
I look forward to future QMx projects, including Whitefall's.

All is right in the 'Verse.
Mike

Quoted for truth. I myself have not reserved a Mal pistol, so I really have nothing at stake, but it does shake my confidence in their other products a bit. However, I am continually impressed by what they do manage to produce, so I think I won't denounce QMx quite yet.

I hope someone can run things better for QMX than the loudmouth braggart who loves to spin half-truth war stories but whines like a little girl and then runs home to hide under the bed when asked actual questions. Having his thread deleted was the mark of a coward, as is refusing to comment on the same board where he shilled (and shilled, and shilled, and shilled, and pimped, then shilled some more) his vaporware.

I wonder of any of the old bootleg Steve customers ever got their money back from one failed project or another.

Alex

whatever the case is with whatever project is going on, the design of those posters is beyond cool. Thank you so much for posting them. I love the old propaganda style art. LOVE IT. Now, if they wanted to do some weapons posters too, I'm sayin.

I think they'd sell well. :)

In all honesty, I believe that the number of board members here possessing a great deal of personal enmity for a particular principal from QMx - although they will deny this is true until the end of time or their last lying breath - precludes any mature or rational discussion about QMx from occuring here at the R.P.F.

Given this fact, I believe there is absolutely nothing positive that could be gained by QMx responding to anything posted on forums like this one.

I am sorry for those of you who might have lost a resource because of this.

The best thing QMxy can do is continue to exist, continue to take money only for products that have been manufactured
and are available to be delivered and settle for making what it is possible for them to make. If they continue to create beautiful items that bring a lot of people happiness in the meantime, great!

Having been here since the late nineties or so, I am certain that if QMx manages to keep on keeping on, there will be very few former
detractors who step forward and say something like "Damn it took a long time for those Mal guns and some of that other product
but you defied the odds and managed to produce some nice stuff anyway. Congratulations."

Sorry if it angers people when I say this but there is a large faction here that is swift to lay blame and slow to give credit when credit is due.

I hope QMx is concentrating on what is important, vindicating themselves to their detractors in a manner that counts for something: Placing product.

Some people are only happy when they can be unhappy about something. Quite frankly, unhappy people are unpleasant to be around for very long. I hope that QMx does not concern itself too much with making everybody happy.

Alex, I hope that this bile-ridden venting of spleen was a cathartic experience for you. That is a great deal of bitterness to simmer in considering we are talking about toys - oh sorry fellas, I meant "collectibles" - and I hope that you will now experience some peace.

Of course, since that was a personal attack, I guess some of us are not talking about props, are we?

Amen to that.

It is as if someone is starving for attention.

Personally, I have always preferred pink.

Much like the other serious people in this thread (as opposed to the bootlickers and the straphangers), I'm just wondering where my $249 went. And wondering why Stevie had time to bang out long trips down quasi-memory lane yet had no time to talk about business.

Although he used to have plenty to time to talk about business whilst shilling his vaporware on this very board.

Odd, that.

Always nice to see folks without a dog in the fight piling on people who point out facts, though. Some things never change :lol

Alex

Oooh! Some high-caliber discourse from the usual R.P.F. brain-trust. Lemme put on my "Nerds with too much time to waste and nothing worthwhile to do" Babelfish on:

Romper, bomper, stomper, boo! I see you! :eek

Much like the other serious people in this thread

There aren't any serious people in this thread, Tex, least of all you.

Always nice to see folks without a dog in the fight piling on people who point out facts, though.

1) Is this a dogfight? 2) Should I have brought one? :rolleyes 3) Doesn't "piling on" rather describe the M.O. of a couple fellows that have been in this thread for more than a while? 4) Is Alex a master of over-blown hyperbole? 5) Does the fact that I showed up to this whine-fest :crylate mean that I have no knowledge of the facts? 6)Or that I have no stake?

It is possible that if the depth of your erroneous conclusions were exposed you'd feel a sense of embarrassment, but I doubt that you're that deep. Actually I think Alex knows better, he just likes beating his chest and tearing his hair.

Some things never change :lol

Least of all you, Alex. :cry I doubt you've really lost any money, you're an idiot if you did. I'm certain you think you could do things much better from top to bottom than QMx did, although as far as I know you've never done anything other than some bad castings and obsess about Steve.

Well, this pointless exchange could go on forever, like a Texas circle-jerk with Viagra addicts. I notice Darth Goat is here, so I am certain it will. Still can't get a date, eh D.G. ? Maybe if you wore that helmet while pretending to chug two beers simultaneously! And then there is Amish! Haven't seen you in one of these pointless exchanges in a while! It's been three or four days at least. Doubtless even more of the usual disfunctional twerps will be here shortly to hear themselves drone on endlessly... so unfortunately I've got to go deal with real life. I'm sure you'll continue blathering and wasting time just fine without me.

See Ya.

JAS

I, myself, can't wait to order QMx's Mal's pistol. I just want to get some testemonials from people who receive the pistol and see what they think of the quality.

I'd love to display the Serenity Mal's pistol next to my Sidkit Firefly version. :thumbsup

EDIT: By the way, I haven't ignored what has gone on in the rest of the thread, actually I've read it all the way through since it was made.

No more personal attacks. Sheesh, we're waiting on a prop and turning on each other instead.

Sorry Jeff, I thought I was on your ignore list. :rolleyes

To the topic of this thread, any news of the pistol would be appreciated from QMX. Anything at all really. It does not have to be posted here, maybe a note in their blog, or newsletter....

Saw this on serenity.com:
Quite a few folks are, and there hasn’t been a lot of chattering from QMx about ship dates. They announced earlier this year that they were changing manufacturers to get the quality they wanted, but little has been said since then.

Turns out you might be waiting a bit longer, but it’ll be worth it. From what I’m hearing — please note, on a WAY unofficial basis from an unnamed source — is that they’ve been doing a lot of market research to make sure that what they’re making is what everyone really wants. The result? The originally planned replica is a very nice compromise on price versus detailing and materials… that may not make anyone particularly happy.

See, for average fans, the current $250 (plus shipping) is a bit pricey. But the gun they can produce for that amount isn’t as incredibly shiny as what high-end collectors want, either. QMxers are, first and foremost, collectors themselves, and they want to produce something you can put proudly on display. But they also realize cosplayers need something rough and tumble and relatively inexpensive just in case, well, you know.

So their options are to produce cheaper guns that more people can afford but won’t satisfy hardcore collectors, produce exquisitely detailed guns with moving parts that collectors will want, or some combination. Personally, I suspect we’ll be seeing a variety of available Mal replicas coming from QMx, all cast from the original weapons and priced for different markets. Give ‘em credit, they want to do it right – minimum suckage, maximum fan joy – and doing it right takes time.
