Any fan's of Dr. Grordbort out there? (Weta Rayguns) and the STEAMPUNK HAN SOLO

Re: Any fan's of Dr. Grordbort out there? (Weta Rayguns)

I was thinking of snapping a few shots this weekend and posting them, but wanted to gauge interest first. Seems like kind of a limited niche in the SF Collecting area.

Who's got what?

I got this -

And one that I built myself (Inspired by Dr Grordbort)

I'd love to pick one of those wave disruptors up!

I love the heft on these things. If you run out of oscillator power, you can always bludgeon your foe to death! :lol

What made me fall in love with these things is the packaging. No offense to QMX and my good friend Steve, but when the Mal pistol showed up in a cardboard box screened to look like wood, I was ... ... less than blown away.

The velvet lined interiors of the very solid pressed tin containers, which also serve as display bases, were very attractive. It feels like a serious piece, not a toy.

Yeah, the guns are extremely heavy (If you drop it on your foot, be prepared to use a wheelchair for some time).
I also like the red velvet lining . Goes real well with the whole Steampunk/Victorian era look.
I also like the embossed image of the gun on the front of the carrying case.
My only gripe is that I wish they had included some kind of latch.

I'd love to see pix! :)

I wish the full size ones weren't so pricey. I can't justifty it. I am however rocking the quarter scale ones from Comic Con. :D

Last year i picked up the 1/4 scale Goliathon at Comic Con (Nice detail for a miniature.)

If you can find one at a decent price on eBay, these would be a great candidate for one of those 25% instant savings deals. 25% of a lot is still a lot to get back. :love I got my ManMelter off of eBay.

Re: Any fan's of Dr. Grordbort out there? (Weta Rayguns)

And then there's that name "Man Melter". :unsure

Darth Sabre, you were a great inspiration to me. I'm in the process of building my own Raygun after I found your build thread here on the RPF.

Currently trying to get it to a standard I like, here's my WIP:

As for Dr Grordborts, I'd love one but just can't justify spending that amount of money at the moment

Huge fan of the Weta rayguns! I just wish they're weren't so expensive.... Maybe one day I'll get a full size one, until then I'll stick with my 1/4 scale versions...

Oh yes, lovely to look at, but just too expensive for the likes of me!

So I've had to make my own:

The THUNDERBUSS Sonic Hunting Rifle.

Re: Any fan's of Dr. Grordbort out there? (Weta Rayguns)

Now that's spiffy! :cool

I like everything about it except the squished font on the meter there. But I'm a designer. :lol

Re: Any fan's of Dr. Grordbort out there? (Weta Rayguns)

OK Doctor, i have to ask...Were those custom machined parts??

BTW, outstanding work!

Actually, that sort of fits with the faux Victorian thing: 19th century typography was all over the place! :D

I've got a pistol on the back burner too, I just need to finish it!

Why thank you! And no, nothing custom that you can see, all fabricated from ABS tube and junk, with an old stock from a Rook rifle via eBay, and some brass bits machined for the selector by a friend!

The DOCTOR:

Squished font be damned! I dig that. I think your gauge is the coolest part of your awesome Thunderbuss. I wish the one on my Cockswain's meter was as imaginative and inventive. Everyone is going to have their personal "I would have done it this way", but screw 'em.

As far as the 1/4 scale pieces go, I never did like the MR quarter scale lightsabers... I suppose I'd appreciate them a bit more for the RayGuns.

But I think the only RayGun minature I could endorse would be the Moonhater DeathRay.

Some of you Grordbort fans will understand why, a 1x1 would dwarf that

I'm definitely a big fan, took inspiration from those to build my Steampunk Blaster for the 2008 BBC contest:
