Ant Man and the Wasp Quantumania

Yeah what the heck with the bad reviews… me and my GF both enjoyed it…

Maybe a little long in the end, but most I’ve enjoyed a Marvel flick since end game

Not counting no way home

Jonathan majors is great… fun alien stuff… interesting fights… wasn’t bored…

And wtf Michelle Pfiefer!? Hawt.

This is not labeled as a spoiler thread so, better to not tempt the ban hammer. Lol
A spoiler thread means things are posted without the spoiler hidey button thing. You're safe to post spoilers anywhere when using that feature, because the reader has to deliberately click on the hidden material to see it.

Wasn't a fan. There were parts of it where there were lots of exposition and I actually dozed off for a couple of minutes. Jonathan Majors as Kang wasn't even scary or formidable; his angry expressions came across more like childish tantrums. Didn't like him in Loki and didn't like him here. And live action MODOK just looks goofy AF. Very forgettable film.

Treadwell, I got you but, I don't know how to do the covered spoiler thing over the text. Amd I would need to here bc this topic isn't labeled as spoiler. You know. I double checked bc I'm not wanting the Mjolnir ban hammer to strike me down.

this text got spoilerized because after I typed it, I highlighted it and then clicked the three dots up on the toolbar, which brings down more symbols, one of which is an eyeball with a strike through it. Yeah, it's kind of buried not not terribly intuitive.

Saw it a few hours ago. Thor Ragnarok has been dethroned as my least favorite MCU movie. Just felt that the plot wasn't great and the "comedy" felt forced. Never seen any reviews before I went, but I was disappointed.

Had a lot of fun with it. Felt a little superfluous except for the introduction of Kang, but enjoyed it nonetheless. It was definitely a little goofy, but in a fun way instead of in the way that grated on me in the last Thor movie.

The Council of Kangs was cool, and I like the stinger with Loki at the end.

I'm sorry to say this was most boring MCU film I've seen to date. Pacing was ponderous. Even the editing was tone-deaf for comic timing. I, too, fell asleep at moments.

Kang (and the actor who plays him) was ununique, uncompelling and uninteresting to watch. It didn't help that he dragged out his monologs in an attempt to seem menacing even when it was obvious what he was going to say next. At moments, like the prison scene between Kang, Scott and his daughter, it felt like the DMV/sloth scene in Inside-Out. I kept wanting him to die just so the movie would end.

It got even worse with the mid-credits scene which showed more of this villain I didn't like and the end credits which showed him more and finally the words "Kang will return".

Agreed. Jonathan Majors as Kang is overrated, imho. Everyone's been singing his praises since he appeared in Loki but I don't find him at all intimidating as a villain. Third tier villain at best tbh. If Marvel's banking on him to carry Phase 5, I'm afraid they've miscalculated.

This is another financial failure for Marvel. It will have trouble making a profit. It's going to have trouble reaching $600 million at all. Just during the opening weekend, when compared to the last Ant Man movie (which wasn't good), more than a million fewer people saw it on opening weekend than it's predecessor.

Marvel is toast.

It was just okay for me, nothing really remarkable. I did doze off briefly during one of Kang's scenes, so take that into account. I thought he was good, though. Seemed like some missed opportunities. Not much humor, and the few jokes there were fell flat (at least in my theater). Kinda missed Michael Pena - even though his character was pretty one dimensional, I always enjoy his performances. He could've helped with the humor at least.
I might be a little burnt out on movies shot entirely in front of green screen (or "led volumes" sets), or at least ones that don't vary the scenery much (especially ones that are predominantly dark). I saw it in 3D, which makes dark movies even dimmer. The 3D was also unremarkable - I can't recall anything in particular. I'd rather have movies that pushed the 3D effect more than ones that try to play it safe. At this point, I think the people going to see movies in 3D are mostly people that want more 3D effects. I know that probably costs more for the studio, or at least it requires directors that want to oversee the 3D conversion more than just slapping 3D on in order to get a few extra dollars at the box office.

Marvel is toast.
I think things will turn around once the FF hype machine gets going, but I also think it's a bit premature to call Marvel toast.

Speaking of FF, this was essentially an FF movie wrapped in an Ant Man costume if you think about it.
FF villain, quantum realm is a stand in for the microverse, family theme...

I don't get the hate for Jonathan Majors. Dude cuts an imposing figure and has crazy range as an actor. It is a little weird how it feels like the two times we've seen Kang variants he's been trying to explain all the conquering he's doing instead of actually doing it, but I think that's coming.

Now that you mention Pena, the absence of Luis and his crew is maybe why I liked this one better. Their characters brought the prior films just a little too far in the goofy territory for me.

So there was no “flashback story with pertinent info/truth serum” drunk history-ish sequence voiced by Pena?

I understand not liking him and the group for being too joky or campy- but those are some of me and my kids favorite marvel sequences
