Anovos Stormtrooper.... thoughts?

Usually it's the same here. But FedEx handles everything and does the paperwork later - with my TFA helmet it was roughly 2 weeks later.

No duty :)

AWESOME O!!!! I had a feeling it would fall under NAFTA, but wasn't 100% sure because other people kept talking about the inevitable duty charges. Thank you, Brian Mulroney, for bringing me a stormtrooper kit on the cheap! All the outsourced jobs to Mexico were totally worth it!
And, yeah, Canada Post is STILL dithering around getting the package from Richmond to the Sunshine Coast. Come ON already, guys! I can drive that in an hour and a half!

Just arrived. Have to say, thumbs up for Anovos! Will have to trim the eyes some to get to my liking, as someone mentioned, I think they under trim the eyes purposely.

Thanks Cyberpyrot, your pic gave me some motivation to start trimming.

I'll start working on mine in about a month (I have some exams coming up right now) and seeing as this is my first ever armor, I wanna take things slowly and remain disciplined. Watch others build theirs, see what works and what doesn't. Consider the options. You get the picture.

Anyway, I'm super happy with my kit, especially since I bought it at Tier 1.

Sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you do score and snap because I am not liking that idea. Dremmel for me.

Tom

Score and snap works beautifully. There's a reason why it's the preferred method of construction at whitearmor.net, the main Stormtrooper resource site for the 501st.

If you're *really* skilled with a Dremel, it can work fine, of course, but it can be difficult for the unskilled user to produce clean straight lines.

Dremel is fantastic for cleanup work, and various other tasks, however.

Mine just came in, the helmet definitely needs work. Is anyone else's velcro straps coming off? I was thinking I'd just take out the eye glass and helmet bracket and let the velcro adhesive cure without any pressure.

I don't have this kit, but I have been in the 501st a long time and I have seen a lot of kits. I've never seen a kit that came with decent Velcro. Rule #1 in buying armor is "throw away any Velcro that comes with it!" Go buy Industrial Strength Velcro--you will be so much happier.

Can you define Industrial strength Velcro???? The only place I have found bulk Velcro in my area is Joaan's Fabrics.

Does anyone know an ETA on the suit?????????????

I got a mannequin on the way and it's needs some covering. He is shy.

Tom

It is literally just Velcro but it will have the label "Industrial Strength" on the box along with a picture of a fire extinguisher or coatrack, etc.

Score and snap would be the way to go. Very easy if you take your time. I would think using a Dremel would be super messy and hard to get a straight cut.

Thank you. It's on Amazon just like you said.

So does anyone know if the Anovos velcro the good stuff or not???

Thanks again

Tom

Is there anything special about the body suit??? I tired looking around whitearmor but it's big. Heading back there now

I ask because I am thinking about getting a cheap black body suit for the mannequin which would just involve velcro for the display and then do the strapping and fancy stuff with the suit so if I ever lose a ton of weight I could try wearing it.

Thanks

Tom

Nothing special. Any form-fitting black undersuit with no labels and no visible fasteners (seeable from under the armor) is fine. If it has a label, you can even just black it out and be fine.

"For 501st approval:

Black non-textured material, either one-piece or two-piece construction with no visible zippers or logos"

(note, logo visibility only matters if it can be seen poking out from under the armor)

Stick to crew neck rather than mock turtleneck, so it doesn't interfere with the neck seal.

I'd look to this thread for guidance if you're looking for some specific recommendations, to buy separately in advance of getting your Anovos undersuit:

Perfect.

Thank you sir.

Mine arrived yesterday and I have to say it is absolutely fantastic, wished I'd got the helmet as a kit but it's nothing I can't fix as is.
No import charge so I'm extra happy. Happy happy joy joy.

Yes, that's it. The actual Velcro part ie the hook and loop is the same as regular Velcro. The "Industrial Strength" refers to the sticky part. It will hold MUCH better. Also a good tip is to gently sand the area where you are going to place the Velcro with a fine grit sandpaper to remove the gloss. It also helps to slightly score the area with an X-acto blade, too. That helps to give the sticky glue something to bite into. One last tip: The sticky stuff is just like any other glue--give it several hours to set completely before you actually start to use it.

The sanding and scoring tip helps immensely on ANY area you are going to put on glue of any sort.

If you had a Fedex delivery like me then expect a bill in a week or so to cover the import duty/tax.....I got one for my Ep 7 FO TK helmet in December after thinking I too got away without paying..For some reason Fedex prefer to deliver the package then send a bill later, others like Royal Mail or DHL insist on paying the bill before they deliver. I got on Tier 1 so I'm thinking the bill's gonna be around £75 or so...

Excellent tips.

Thank you so much.

This will help greatly.
