ANOVOS issues (ANOVOS ONLY discussion)

James Luceno and Brian Daley used to write together under the pseudonym Jack McKinney. I like Luceno's books (even though his flowery prose at the start makes the first couple pages a slog until he settles down), I like Daley's even more and can't recommend his Han Solo adventures highly enough, and if you like Robotech "Jack McKinney's" novelizations of the series are a mostly-good read (and, in places, better than the anime).

*raises hand* Poster boy, here. I first found out about the 501st back in 2000 or so. I am still not a member. I ran across the Mandalorian Mercs at Celebration IV back in '07, and am still not a member there, either. I have a lot of costumes in the pipeline, but a combination of real life concerns, giving commissions priority over personal projects, and club drama have kept me from closing the gap to official standing. I've been a squire/handler so often over the years. I am praised for my helpfulness and confusedly questioned as to why I'm not official yet. *sigh*

I'd rather do it right than fast, but when life keeps treating you like a punching bag, that can push things many years on the side of annoying. I have to keep reminding myself there are no shortcuts to anyplace worth going. Tell me... What is it you're needing for your front-runner costume (don't even know how many you might have interest in)? My Royal Guard is what I consider to be barely wearable. I could probably get it approved, but I'd rather make it better first. That requires better fabric and good color match with the dyes, a new and more accurate set of inner garments, new gloves, additional work on the pike and helmet... *shrug* I know the struggle. I'll help you with yours where I can.

Well, the Anovos Kylo IS my costume. I was basically done with that part of life but saw it at Wondercon in 2016. It looked perfect and, considering I do not have any time at all to work on such things, why not get it, right?

I thought that $3k was enough money to BUY a shortcut, right?!

I could maybe spare part of a week to get it tailored and test fit, etc. but that is about it. Assuming I ever get it.

The stupid lightsaber, correct boots, and Mi-Com voice thing, and more, have been all sitting around here (for three years - wow) at another $500 dropped into nothing.

What you say here is just wonderful though - thoughtful and full of camaraderie - I do appreciate it.

Same with all of these recent responses here... :)

In my profession I often run into folks who have (like many of us) all of the passion and euphoria of grand ideas but who will never realize that they will never ever have what it takes to execute them. They are incapable of sufficient self-awareness. It just turns out that Anovos is run by two such people but I never thought such a product and lousy license holder would have the Disney label on it. THAT is what convinced me to buy. That is what felt safe and secure - the Disney label.

That said, if any of you have questions you think I might be able to answer about materials I am more than happy to chime in!

And P.S. ... will check out the Luceno/ Daley work!!!! :)

Over in Star Wars land, the 501st is so dysfunctional some local and online crap that happened turned me away from Imperial costuming (or wanting to still join the club) for a good decade.

This right here! THIS RIGHT HERE. Some awful members in the 501st and in my local Garrison. But I still costume as much as I like and when I want.

i know this is off topic but that part of your post clicked with me and needed to release some steam because there are a few I would like to blast in public forum but I choose not to.

some members of the Ohio Garrison only care about themselves and nothing more.

So frikkin typical of costuming. I'm not sure why - but folks who costume too hard are more interested in being that character than in being someone hanging out with freinds in a good costume. Not everyone but this is part of it.

Makes for good costume construction though!

The ONLY thing I want to do with my outfit at this point is visit kids in the hospital. Hard to organize and I have a couple 501 troops who will do it with me. But that is the only thing I want to do at this point.

And Halloween sometimes.

I just want those people at Anovos to change something on their new calendar of expected delivery. And if you agree, just reply "yes" or like.

On their calendar they say Kylo costume to be delivered in TBD 2019.

But on their detailed blog they say that starting over (like they are doing) puts the product out by 6 - 12 months. WHICH IS AN ADMISSION OF NNOO CCOOSSTTUUMMEESS FFOORR HHAALLOOWWEENN OORR EEPPIISSOODDEE IIXX EEVVEENNTTSS.

So Anovos, BEGIN to show some respect instead of trying to write above your skill level.

Change the Kylo date on the calendar to TBD 2020 - not TBD 2019.

Anovos may say that 2019 is what they are shooting for and what they are hopeful for but shut the **** up, man up, and write what we all know.

I was putting it lightly. There is more to it.
Please try not to stir that pot, JDD. Those of us who know the truth are kind enough not to air (your) dirty laundry here. Oh, and using an inactive member TK-ID to register on a message board you have been banned from ? Classy to the end.

...and proceeds to air dirty laundry. Not saying it isn't warranted, just funny given the sentence it immediately follows.

aaaannnd - queue the Star Trek update - bumped to 2020. Rest assured, one franchise will be ready and shipping this year, so no need to work on my cardboard armor (All items are subject to change in availability, features, and delivery dates at any time and for any reason).

I'm oddly OK with them delaying the TWOK field jacket a few months. That thing is going to cost a fortune in customs and sales tax for those of us in Europe!

It's all just lies anyhow at this point. 2020 could also be untrue. They need to just say TBD... and not put any year in place because based on their history, they are either do not have the ability or the motivation to accurately predict the delivery date of their product.

In the spirit of the great Yogi Berra, the one time they will be right on their delivery schedule, we will be wrong. Will see what happens, and for those who are going to SDCC, have fun, regardless of this series of delays, delays, delays.

Curious, how many people here are just "done" because of this? I mean, when this costume gets here (if), I won't know what to do with it. I think that putting any time into it or putting it on will just feel kind of embarrassing at this point.

But by "done" I mean that Anovos has pretty completely killed the hobby for me.

I just gave away some molds and props. Threw out resin, fiberglass, paint, etc.

Just wondering who else might feel the same.

And does anyone know what stage the lawsuit is in? I'm not part of it but pretty darn curious.

Yeah, I got completely turned off by my experience with Anovos. I'm starting to get back into some of it, but they definitely killed my love for it.

Nothing has changed more delays, in stock orders taking over 2 months to ship, more BS from the failed BS Kings

I received a message that my kit was “shipping soon” [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]
