Another Star Ship

Katsu-san, when that ship finally leaves Earth for some distant planet I want to come along, OK. So reserve a bunk bed for me.

Oh and speaking of distant planets. That looks like some wondrous place right there in your photos. What a beautiful place - looks so serene.

I have ancestors that I know of going back to the late 1600's and some of them are interesting. I found it interesting to know that I'm related to both Prince William and his wife Kate. Closer to Kate than William though. My family fought on both sides of the Civil War, and both sides of the Revolutionary War. But almost everyone has a few interesting characters in their family tree.

And your english is better than many of the younger generation of kids here in the US, so don't sweat the small stuff :)

Wow! that is very interesting. :eek You have very dramatic history of your family. Just like a story of a historical movie.

This is a family coat of arms of my home. This emblem of butterfly is the Heike's. But I don't know much about the characters in my family tree. Maybe I should study about it.:lol
??? ????????? - Yahoo!??????

Thank you very much for your positive comment about my English.

No problem. I already reserved 'The presidential sweet' for you:lol
Invitation letter will reach you soon.:thumbsup

I'm glad to hear you love it!:lol It's a very very quiet and peaceful space.
And makes me feel something great is existing.

Butterflies:
"The Japanese view butterflies as souls of the living and the dead. They are considered symbols of joy and longevity." found that at: Symbology in Japanese Culture

My ancestors were German coal miners, from Whales. When they came to America, my great, great uncle became a priest... he was later wrongly accused of stealing a horse and was hung. The real horse thief, according to the news article, attended the hanging, and later confessed... That is the most interesting thing I have found so far of my history. :)

Wow, your ancestors really had a hard time to live on, Cedeus-san.
What a pity.....

I visit my ancestor's graveyard twice in every year. In spring and fall.
There I always thank them for their struggling for survival which makes me able to stand there now. Long line of lives. " I'm owing you so much"

i hope i have a place too. it would be deeply honorable for one such as me to be on this magnificent ship.

That's a beautiful mon, Katsu-san. It looks like it would make a great tsuba design. (Or maybe even a star liner logo!)

Katsu-san!

I had been following your build at Starship Modeler, but it's sooo much easier here!
I love how everything has been coming together, and it's inspiring me to take on my own overly-ambitious project. I know that I'll be mining this topic for years to come with all the great techniques you've shown us.

I think Smiling Otter is onto something - If this is a starliner, your family's butterfly crest would look terrific on the side of the tower!

Strode-san, I want all of my friends to come on board this ship.:lol

Oh, you know the things about Japanese tradition.
Yes, it does. mon is often used for the design of tsuba and that is the fact not many native Japanese know that though.

Katsu-san!

Wow, thank you very much, Victor3-san.
This project was also overly-ambitious one for me when I started.
But somehow I could manage to carry it this far with the great support by my friends. Please start your project when you are ready up. So I can enjoy your build.:thumbsup

The family coat of arms(mon) may look cool for the foreign person, but, for many Japanese, is an image to be heavy. This is something very difficult to explain.:lol This mark is always stenciled on the chest of black kimono we call 'Montsuki'.
????????? - Yahoo!??????
It's the kind of a traditional court dress for attending a funeral or wedding.

Is it that putting a mon on something like a model starship would be a less-than-respectful use for it? I could certainly understand that.

(Perhaps a fictional ship, operated by a fictional Japanese corporation (kaisha?) would have a fictional mon as it's logo... :) )

As impressive as the build has been, I cant wait to see what you do with the paint.... Best scratch build I've seen on here so far..... keep it up

Ah..... You can use the mon to putting onto anything you like.
It's not about the matter of respect. We feel unsuitable to putting this mark onto any contemporary things.

Oh! I remember when my dad tried to put our mon on the center of the hub cap of his new car once. My mother said ' Hey! our car is not a hearse!':lol

So, the direction for uses of this mark is limited for some reason indirectly.

If I bought the small office building in the city and put this mark on the center of the entrance door, some people might think of it as a office of Yakuza Mafia!:lol

Phew! I'm really sorry but I can't explain much better than this.
Can you make sense? :confused

Thank you very much Stephen-san!
Now I'm preparing for the paint job. Since there are some possibility that my crampy hands might mess the paint job, I stay away from a whisky bottle now. I'm serious. :love

All the best.

You have to love the RPF. Not only do we get to witness great builds, builders and make friends. We can learn about others cultures, beliefs, and traditions.

I am sure that you will come up with a fitting logo for this build. Great work.

I'm with you crackerjazz.I want to lie on the beach and look up as the stars stream by.

If it's not stereotypical, what about a bonsai with the rising sun behind it. (Yes I know that's similar to the Serenity Logo) but with the rising sun it's not THAT close.

Katsu-San....Every time I come to view this thread it brings me joy! I read each page over and over again and am more and more impressed with the build! Thank you for taking us on the journey with you!

I'm thinking something has a Art deco touch. :rolleyes

My grand father loved the bonsai.
One of his tree(1.5feet tall) took 25 years from order to delivery.
Cost him about $25000. He said that was a bargain.:eek

Oh you are welcome, NMR-san! I am always having a very good time with you. I really like having all of you watch progress of my work.

Not a big progress though but some of the detailing.
