Another Salzo V3 Build

Having looked at the socket for the stand, I wonder if it would be possible to have someone manufacture the 'cover plate' that's underneath (just rear of the point you've opened up), so you could remove what's currently there and use that as your access and mounting point/stand area; you'd have the ability to re-cover the area if you want to display it differently. Or is there a location issue which is making you put the point a bit forward?

That's what I did on my first X-Wing, each cover plates were removable to access all the mouting points (the fact is in 2 years I always displayed it by the same mounting point :lol). I plan to do the same on my other X-Wing.

That's better to scratch them because they will fit the fuselage angles better than the ones provided with the kit (for the side ones) and they are easy and quick to do...

Small update ..

R2 has been rigged to the lighting system and is now wrapped and ready for the paint job.

Added a resin strip in the corner as the mounting frame would leave the innards open when I was closing the fuselage. This will be properly bondoed shut when I'll finally close it all before painting.

I began by fitting the nut in the bolt, then ca glued it in the pre-made hole. Then I used Epoxy and filled the rest and around the nut. Looks pretty solid to me. You can also notice the groove I did for both my blue and red LEDs to go into.

And here's a better look on the closed fuselage. I'm so glad I decided to use the aligning pins .. this is saving me major headaches!!!!

Nothing is fixed yet .. neither are the wing mounts or wings themselves. It's just to give a general idea!

I used the same solution which straighten the fuselage right away!!!! THANKS MAX!! Whoever you are, I had no idea how to handle this prior to reading your thread ;)

Your most welcome! Glad the build notes came in handy. Your build up is looking great.

Oh they did .. thanks again for doing that!!

Your doing an amazing job, keep up the great work

Guy, I'll come back to your build so often once the paint job starts!

Once again guys, if you see anything that doesn't make sense, please let me know, I always wait some time before moving on to bigger steps in case my photo would show something that is not right!

Ok, so I'm ready to close the fuselage .. but since the wing mounts need to be put into it before closing it .. it will create some problem with sanding around them.

So, what I'm thinking is to actually close the fuselage first, bondo all the seam properly. After that, remove the small lips inside the wing mounts and slide them in. Anyway, since I have electronic wires and mounting rods, I don't want to leave a gap (hero style I think) between the mount and the fuselage.

Does that make any sense or I'm on crack and missing something obvious? Thanks for any fast input on this.

Fuselage closed. It took a long time sanding everything down, there's still some imperfection along the joint but seriously .. I'm way too picky.

The only thing bugging me now, is that the putty may have covered the nose line that goes all around .. and without a scribing tool, I'm affraid I can't do much that would look good ..

I'll probably have everything primered tonight.

Since you havent used the Hero wing blocks I wouldnt be worried about the nose line. Actually this line was not scribbed but that was a joint on the Hero models the nose was removable to access the front mouting point). This line doesnt exist on the pyro models.

Anyway great job ! This is not an easy job to get it aligned !

Yeah, exactly has I thought!! :rolleyes

No but seriously, I had no clue! LOL :confused Thanks for the info .. block has been glued now .. right on the fuselage ..

I've long realised that it wouldn't be fully accurate to any of the Red5 out there. Still, it will be MY creation and not a commission and for that, I'm truly proud of it!

Bump for an update. Hows it coming along. I should have my V2 next week. Need the updates!:)

My bird felt on the floor and exploded, so this project is cancelled!

Ok, just kidding .. I've had a load of crap in my life lately so this has been put on standby for now! Plus, I just can't paint so I'm really stuck at the moment .. hopefully, I won't have to wait till summer to resume work on it ...

My heart dropped when I read the first line! Painting takes practise and you have done a great job so far. Plus, it's not like an X-Wing has the shine of a Ferrari!

Well well well ...
Look what thread is resurrected from the dead ...

I'm happy to report that I'm back on this bad boy!!! Thanks to a good friend of mine who've brought me back to my SS love!

Just added the canon lines with 1/32" brass rod.

Hit it with more primer where I had left off more than a year ago!

Next step, backwing lines with 1/16" brass rod and finishing shooting one canon and the back of the fuselage!!!

Hopefully someone will be able to help me ..
I've spent the past hours looking through XWing threads and couldn't find that info .. I know I've read it once .. somewhere ...

On the side of Red 5 .. there's those 5 "exhaust ports" and the attach point cover ... I'm trying to find reference on the proper way to set them up ..

Ports:
- exact location
- material - I figured 1/16" aluminium rods?

Cover .. here's a little montage from various build threads and image I found around ...

Can anyone confirm or give me more info on the cover configuration the port material? Which setup is the best one?

Well .. it's tough to get tips these days!
So I moved on with the build .. I'm moving more than ever on this .. and I actually begin to believe I'll be able to one day get to the paint on this bird!

Side ports have been added below the canopy .. also added the wing trench tubing and on a tip from a good friend, I've also decided to add a pin to each wing's canon to make sure they don't fall off easily ..

I also completed my stand .. GF's style with an IKEA lamp!

Thanks VD,

I'm a little late now to the V3 game .. well .. I wasn't when I first began that build .. but anyway .. perhaps at some point, someone will find useful information to that WIP thread!!!

I'm really motivated to finish it now .. this week, my goal is to shoot this bad boy in (gloss?) white paint then steel whool it and start airbrushing from there ...

I spent my lunch hour reading this thread, all for the first time... what a journey!

If I could offer one piece of advice: Try out the black primer/white gloss/steel wool on another kit or scrap piece (with raised detail) first. It will give you a feel for how much or how little to do on your X.

I'm still puzzling out how to do the amber visor, too. It's really tough to make it so it doesn't look too thick.
