Another Recasting Scumbag in the UK

Guys, I just checked out the online video interview with the Strause bros. on the IGN website when I saw this link on the right side of the page. It takes you here, to The Hunters Throne

This douche bag Gavin Robinson is actually taking credit for making props built by Lair members and selling the goddamn things! I wanted to flame him up on his email link, but held back in deference to those of you who are being ripped off. I think we need to contact the folks over at IGN and have them take this guy's website link down. Sending them a stack of WIP photos of these props is all it would take. After that, we can send him another one of our props coated with an invisible substance that will make his balls fall off in 72 hours! o_O Anybody know this guy, what names he goes by? If I could air mail him a trans-atlantic fist in a box, I would.

DAMNIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! o_O

can't Dave ever get a break, well i supose i should tell him the bad news : o_O

just sent an email to the people running the place with the vid, i hope they remove the link

Is this an actual problem you guys are having with jerks ripping off your ****? Man that sucks. o_O

I've sent a very polite email to him asking him to give credit to Gary Jensen and myself for the sculpting work on the cannons. From what I read on the Costumes and Props page he has up, they may be only "one-time" sales of the items. But, as a general rule, I rely on my customers contacting me before re-selling any of my creations or collaborated props so that I can keep proper records of sales.
If he is a Lair member, he will see these posts and, hopefully, give credit where it is due.
Now, whether he has actually recast any of the items up for sale is still a pending issue unless we got some evidence.(Edition numbers, signatures, makers marks) I'm looking into that right now.

Thanks for the PM, Hobbs!!

PS: Shiakin, yes, it is a BIG problem. And WE on The Hunter's Lair are the solution, cure and resolution when we come across recasters that steal our work for profit.

PPS: I just took a better look at Gavin's mini-site. I did finally notice that he has HIS name under both the Celtic Bio(Steve's?) and Gary's and my JPAVP RTF Cannon as "by". He may have painted one or the other, but he sure as hell did not sculpt those items. He needs to clear that up with any potential customers or WE will do it for him. And, one of the pictures looks suspiciously like one of Dan's Predstuff.com cannon photos.

WOW, will it never end? The bio does look like Steves, the cannon Pirks And Garys, and the other cannon looks like Carls, WTF? Is this guy really serious?? -----Joe

Gavin should at least give credit to the artists involved in providing him some cool props to sell.

Are you sure he is properly claiming credit and selling multiple items?

He says....I actually made and painted some of them myself and am proud to show off my work! If you see anything you like, let me know as I'm selling off much of it now to save up for other things (i.e. Life-size Predator & Id4 Alien Statues).

SOunds like its a garage sale? Am I reading this wrong? Doesnt say he made the particular items currently pictured or is mass producing - perhaps hes yet to post the pics of his own built items as hes not presented all the pics. Im just saying his language may mean he has yet to show what he made and hes just selling his items he purchased from elsewhere.

Also i REALLY dont want to sound like im defending him - BUT - when I buy stuff I dont request permission to sell from the maker.

If the guys recasting then fair enough - the builders can staple his baws to the inside of his recast bio. o_O

If im wrong and hes recasting just be gentler with my baws. o_O

Something is kinda wacky over there, that's for sure.

He needs to add the word "painted" to the descriptions of the JPAVP RTF Cannon, Celtic Bio and Pirk1 Cannon if his wording is messed up. Note the "by" in the description.(See image at bottom)

As for getting permission to resell a limited edition item, it helps the sculptor/artist's work stay safe from recasters. I'm always grateful when a customer contacts me before parting with a piece of art I have created. It helps me keep my records up to date of who owns what. I no longer sell to customers that do not agree to that easy request.

I agree the "BY" looks odd.

Do you recognise the pics? Are they his?

I dont understand taking credit for other peoples work - it TOTALLY must depreciate everything you have done as an individual to pass yourself off as something your not. Its like admitting your a failure.

aha.........righty, i live about 5 minutes away from this geezer......he was selling a P1 cannon on ebay so i mailed him about an uber cannon. he quoted me £150 for a resin cannon so i told him politely to undress his granny. he reckoned he had stuff in stock that had been tucked away and he was hazy on what he had. he seemed totally unaware that this place existed and seemed to think he was the only pred man out there. i get the feeling he was trying to sell a resin uber cannon at sideshow replica price. one odd mofo, id be wary and id bet my balls hes nosing round here now.
anyone want me to **** on his doorstep just shout.

(Throws up fist) YES! Gather the pitchforks and torches! Wait, did you say **** on his door step or mob his house frankenstein style? o_O

i know this is diffrent but more recently before halloween I have shipped an entirely new AVP scluted suit to singapore,,I quess the only thing to do is whait to see the parts showing up on ebay...

I Fucken Hate these fuckheads...

those who do it secretly here...

thats not steves bio,,but the AVP canon looks like its ripped from predatorstuff.com who is the makers of this cannon?

Gary and I worked on that AVP-style cannon. It's called the JPAVP Ready-to-Fire cannon.
I'm pretty sure Gavin "borrowed" one of Dan's photos for his page.
