Another P1 Mask... Silicone And Animatronics Done.

very ...smooth.

I think it could have done with some more texture if I am honest, but its your vision, and other than that, great to see another silicone head arrive on the forum.

Thanks.
Ya, my texturing should have been more bold.  I'm a little bit disapointed in that aspect but I'm rollin' with it.  :D

Good paint work can mask any lack of texture, and anyway whos to say this pred isn't meant to be like that.

Ah.  There's the key, huh.  Good paint work.     I'll just have to see about that.

That pic does make it look smooth as a babies bottom, doesn't it?

Short awnser is yes.  Long awnser is do it before you run latex due to possible inhabition issues.  Theres others that have more experience in that than I do. Some platinum silicones will have curing issues with a mold run in latex before it.

Are you doing an actual plaster mold or a hydrocal/ultracal?

Hydrocal i what i use, i just wanted to know, but ill use latex on mine, thanks for the answer :)
And lets see that mask painted

Well... I won't win any awards for fiberglassing.  I did have a couple of good days though.  I got the hinges made yesterday and installed today.  Got the servos ready in a tray and that ready to mount.  Got my Gold-N-Cable ready.  Still need to do the other mandible hinges but all is moving, slowly but moving.

Would that work to stiffen the top, and to mount a helmet ring to, so it will fit properly with out moving all over the place.

I NEVER would have thought to do a duct tape dummy of my head. You sir just saved me some money! Thanks for posting this!
Thanks.  But I'm not sure I'd do this again.  The quality of the dummy has a lot to do with it.  I'd much rather have a head form that's a little off then do that dummy head.

As for the stiffening and if I understand your question right, yes.  This was made inside the mask when it was in the mold.  It will only fit this mask and is it's support.  It needed the head mount inside it too.  I used an adjustable head band from a face shield screwed through the top.

I have the mandibles' pivots mounted and the cables temporarily run.  I'll throw up a pic later.   It wasn't nearly as productive of a weekend than I needed.

This is the jaw with the cable ends installed.  The cables go across the jaw and up to the servos. So far, this seems to work fine.  I'll need to reinforce the jaw though.  I cut away quite a bit.

I'll be watching this one for sure.  The mask came out great, and I'm sure the animatronics are going to put it over the top.  I'm anxious to see how it all comes together!

OH HELL YA!!!!! right on brother ..it is gonna rock! ...cant believe i missed the animatronics part
Well, while it does apply, I don't like using the word animatronics for some reason. It makes me feel funny, like climbing the rope in gym class.

The goal is to be done by the end of the weekend.  We'll see how it goes. I won't be able to cast dreads up in that time frame so I'll use the ones from my half mask.  I still have a list of things to do... last weekend wasn't neerly as productive as I needed.

Looking awesome my friend. Will be watching over this like a hawk haha. Something that we don't see being added to costumes much.
