Hi Guys,
I've been busy working on V3 of the Bride's Sword from Kill Bill. It's getting near the end, so I figured I'd post up a few pics and learnings...
Learning #1 - It's not easy to put a nice fake temper line (hamon) on a blade. I tried a number of techniques (sandpaper, a number of wire brushes, ferric chloride), but nothing worked well. So, this sword has no hamon. My test blade, on the other hand, has about 6 crappy partial hamons
Note to self - chrome doesn't react with Ferric Chloride.
Learning #2 - Probably a good idea to LockTite your setscrews on your CNC. My spindles chuck set screw came loose, and screwed up a test run engraving the lioness on a test scabbard (saya).
Anyhow, this ones almost done. Just need to carve the lioness into the saya, tie on the sageo, and done.
It's got a couple of inaccuracies, though. It's missing the large Emperor node in the rayskin of the handle (tsuka), and, of course, the hamon is not present. Other than those, I think it's very close.
Thanks,
jason
