Animatronic cannon controller

You are another fine example of the creativity and ingenuity that this community has to offer. I just started my own costume project (long term) but your circuit is now on my list of things to acquire in the short term.

Best regards

will this miracle device be available before halloween?give or take a month from now?need time 2 set up the rest of the rig for the cannon.im as excited 2 have one of these as much as im excited for halloween!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's available right now. They're built to order so they take a few days to assemble and program. I think I still have eight or nine boards left and then the next batch won't be for another month due to PCB production lead time.

You should see the Iron Man project I'm working on for a friend- it's sooo cool (and it's not a War Machine cannon either- that would have been too easy!) It's actually how I figured out to modify the code.

Jerome

Uh, so why haven't you started a thread on it?!?! :p

Still getting all the photos/information and code sorted out- believe me it's a lot of ground to cover since I'm also going to show how to build the controller and set up wireless communication between two controllers. There's also several code examples and references so people will be able to modify code/create code for other projects. There's a lot more information here than just setting up a controller for a Pred cannon.

I totally want to buy it when I find the right cannon, but seriously I have no idea on how to install it at all

Just to give you an idea for a simple cannon system-
Step 1- connect cannon servos to controller
Step 2 - connect batteries to controller
Step 3- connect Wii nunchuck to controller
Step 4- have fun!

It really is that stupid simple. You'll need to take apart the Wii nunchuck, remove the joystick and solder a couple of connectors if you want to mount the Wii board in your Bio. Of course you can add the laser sight, sound effects and cannon LED but that's simple too and it's already programmed into the controller. You don't have to do any programming (unless you want to.) Don't worry- all will be explained.

The way I'm writing the tutorial is so those individuals that want to build the entire thing from scratch and program it themselves will have all the relevant information.

You're THE MAN! I could never figure this kind of stuff out on my own...

Woohoo! I finally figured out the wireless radios- man was that a pain in the rear. I figured out how to make two controllers talk to each other over a wireless link so now I can have a controller for inputs and another that will drive servos. This will work out awesome for someone that wants to make an animatronic head- you can put one controller in the gauntlet with some bend sensors on your fingers and the other controller goes in the head and can drive the servos that move the mandibles.

This was the last bit I needed to figure out for the tutorial so I should have it up pretty soon. ;)

Great work Jerome

That is one nice setup you got there, truly amazing. I myself have been working on an animatronics cannon as well and I have to say the programming is a pain, being I have never programmed a microcontroller before. I have been able to get it working rather nicely. Google is my friend . I can’t wait to see your tutorial so that I may add or improve on my own setup.
The parts I’m using hmm…….. ;) to many to write down. I may start my own tread on its work in progress.

I'm working on it.....

Right now I'm just finishing up some Iron Man stuff. Have a look- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WfPqdOLakdA

The cool thing is this is pretty much the same circuit I'll use for the Pred gauntlet blades.

The animatronics tutorial is almost finished as well!

dude your are ridiculously talented in electrical stuff man that is awesome, very soon i want your cannon,pm me when they are ready for sale

If I ever get round to making Pred armour this is something I'll need to check out.
I wouldn't have a scooby doo how to make one of these so kudos for your input. Ingenious piece of work.

This has got the be the coolest thing ever. I looked through all your youtube vidoes and it made me all giddy.

Just like everyone else, of course I want one of these. Electronics are like Japanese to me tho.
From what I gather reading this thread, you will be doing a form of a tutorial and sell the parts out so people can hand build this themselves.

If thats the case, its a great idea. I will fork over the money now. I am gonna send you a PM.

SO COOL!!!!
