Anigrand Star Destroyer 1/2256 by dtssyst FINISHED!

Re: Anigrand Star Destroyer 1/2256 by dtssyst

Looks cool.

What sort of glue are you going to glue the fibres in with?
I was just going to use silicon as other glues may melt the fibres.

For mine I used a slightly watered down solution of Elmers white glue. I ran the fibers and then applied a liberal coat of the glue to the back side of the part. Takes a while to dry but it worked great.

Hmm.. I am using just regular ole super glue.. It's working fine and doesn't appear to have melted the fibers or anything. Hmm.. makes me wonder :confused

Re: Anigrand Star Destroyer 1/2256 by dtssyst

I have heard it both ways. Some say don't use super glue, some say it's O.K. Personally I have never had a problem with FO and super glue.

Re: Anigrand Star Destroyer 1/2256 by dtssyst

62 Fiber optics installed so far. The fiber optic ends are not in final positition. They will need to be trimmed once the kit is painted.

A magnet has been installed in the bridge and one in the ball structure to aid in holding the ball structure in place.
This allows the ball structure to be shipped as a seperate piece to prevent any dammage to the very small part. Also, it holds this part in place without any glue when displayed.

I've used super glue not knowing any better when I did my XWing .. and within 2 days, a lot of FO just melted and I had to drill them out .. useless to say it was a real pain in the arse .. I'm never doing that error again!

I've done the rest with plain old white glue .. was just fine!

Managed to get this kit, and it's missing the instruction sheets. Can someone who owns the model copy them for me? How many sheets are there? Was there box art of any kind? Mine was a plain brown, nondescript box.

thanks for any help!

The instructions are attached to the very first post in this thread. Its only 2 pages and not very informative.

Re: Anigrand Star Destroyer 1/2256 by dtssyst

The hardest parts of this kit are figuring out which is the top and bottom halves of the engine block and which is the left and right side of the rear trench pieces. Study the pics for the engine block and tubing location to get it right. I'm still not 100% sure on the rear trench pieces. :confused

Re: Anigrand Star Destroyer 1/2256 by dtssyst

Robiwon,
I agree with the engine block top or bottom. Will have to research that today as that is the next part I am going to work on while I wait for putty to cure.
Did not look at the trench parts yet but thanks for the heads up.

Repindem,
Thanks for helping out Nektu on the instructions. I agree that they are not very informative but they are a good aid for those in need.

The upper Hull
The three parts that make up the upper hull have been attached together and pinned for added strength. The upper hull is temporarily clamped to the lower hull to aid in alignment of the parts for future assembly.

The nose of the upper hull had lackluster detail so that was replaced with a house fence (train scale N ).

Putty work was also started on the upper hull.

Still more to do...

Looks good so far. A tip. Keep the hulls clamped when not working on it. If you leave it on a flat table the weight of the upper hull will "flatten" the lower hull. I cut a "V" shape out of each end of a cardboard box as a makeshift stand. Check out my pics in another thread for the engine block top and bottom.

I have a general modeling question, since I'm redoing a 15" ISD. What do you guys use to fill gaps when the kit parts dont exactly fit up snug?

I currently use kneadatite epoxy putty for the large repairs, gaps, and so on.

I also have and use Tamiya quick type, Tamiya smooth surface, Squadron fast drying white putty and Tamiya basic type. They all are good for one reason or another.

There are many others available. The ones that I listed above are what I currently have in my model supply.

I hope this helps.

Re: Anigrand Star Destroyer 1/2256 by dtssyst

The engine assembly is glued to the bottom hull. The actual engines and hoses are not attached yet. That will be later once the engines are prepped with light(s).

Re: Anigrand Star Destroyer 1/2256 by dtssyst

So you just dab the epoxy putty into the gap, and you can paint right over it with primer?

Re: Anigrand Star Destroyer 1/2256 by dtssyst

The epoxy putty is a two part putty. You fold two equal parts together until it is mixed. Only mix what is needed. Sometimes I do a little at a time so I don't waste any putty. Then you apply, sculpt, fill the gap. Once the putty is curred (dry) you can sand, cut, drill it to shape. Make sure it is dry/cured before you do anything else to it!
Once dry/cured, you can paint it. Primer should be used first.

Sorry for the lack of progress.
My car ('97 Olds Cutlass) was not the greatest so I traded it in and got a 2010 Honda Fit Sport. It is a great little car with a lot better gas mileage than my old car. I wanted something bigger but I am happy with this little guy.

Updates...

Photo Etch added.

The ball structures have magnets to aid in holding them in place on the top of the bridge.

Altering the main engines in process.

Picture 1 and 2: Cut back part off of the main engine. I am using a fine toothed hobby saw.
Picture 3: file/cut all flash between the fins. Picture 3 shows only a few of them done.

Picture 1: The small ring that was cut off needs the outer circumference sanded smooth all around. It is very fragile.
This picture also shows all the inner fins filed/cut outon the main engine part.

Picture 2 shows both parts back together. I have not glued them yet as I need to drill out the large part for lighting. Once that is complete both parts will be glued together.

Last progress on engine #1 prep work.

The outer ring is now glued in place.

ALSO...
The dremel made a mess but the results are fantastic. I was not sure I could pull it off. I hollowed out the back to allow for lighting and while doing so I tried to maintain the detail inside the engine.

I had one oops that I fixed. One of the smallest fins came off. I carved a new one and glued it back in place. Very very small piece but vital that it goes in or all would have been for nothing.

If I can do the other two engines the same, all will be great.
