I haven't heard anything new or had any of my mails or PM's replied to. I'm still hopefull, since I have seen these from the last run and they are EXCELLENT.

Russ, how's it going, man.? :)

Any word from Russ?

The gloves will be the final items I need to complete my lifesize Han ANH.

It's been well over a year on this. It would be nice to hear - something. I think all of us with deposits deserve that.

Don't sweat it. Russ will come through for you.
It took us over 2 years for the very first run. But as stated earlier, they were well worth the wait. I still love mine and they are perfect.
(seriously, expect a year or so.)

Why can no one get a respoonse? Why is there no update mass email to say...Hey i am still here and working. I think anyone with a deposit deserves this. Other who are just interested would like to know whether to get their gloves elsewhere. His last post to the RPF was 8/19/04 and to the Dented Helmet on 11/23/04. I havent heard from this ANH Solo project since 10/19/04. I understand this takes a while, even years but it HAS BEEN over a year. My first saved email of intrest is dated 10/24/03. I paid my deposit of 20.00 on 12/21/2003.

I get it, it takes time. BUT I think MINIMALLY we should have quarterly updates. Its been 5 months now with no post, no email replies that anyone here will admit to or at TDH, and no PM replies again that folks will admit to. There have been too many run aways to do this this way. ie exedge and the like.

I want to have faith but i also dont want to sit around for 2 years and then go "well where'd he go?" Russ seems like a good guy and i dont want to piss him off with this but like I said, put people at ease with a quarterly email or post. Or if it is slow enough to be every 6 months then tell us that and send an email every 6. But there should be some kind of a regular update once money has changed hands.

First, let me apologize for my absence. I know it's been a long time, but I'm still around and haven't run off with anybody's money. I've been waiting to post until I had some news.

My glove maker has not been giving me any updates, and telling me "I should have some news soon, I'm contacting somebody new" etc etc... I have been in constant contact with him this entire time, but haven't had anything to report. I contacted him again last week and told him that it was time to do something or it was over, and I was just going to fold this project.

I am still dealing with him-- but I am now in direct contact with HIS supplier. She told me that the factories in China where they are being made took the month off for "Chinese New Year" or something like that. I tried to stay pleasant, but said "uh-huh, OK-- so how can we speed this up now?" I have answered several technical questions about the design, materials, and colors to use.

I *should* be seeing a prototype here in the next few weeks, at least that is what I am told. After the prototype is approved, we should see a production run in a few more weeks.

Again, my apologies for my scarceness-- I just wanted to be able to post something positive. I'm begging forgiveness for those who put down a deposit who expected these gloves last year, but the ball is rolling once again and I promise that I will deliver.

I will continue to take orders for anybody else who wants a pair, but I refuse to take any more deposits or money from anybody until I have product here. Keep an eye out for me and feel free to ask questions. I don't visit here as often as I used to, but I have a couple of friends who watch more frequently and will give me a "heads up" on this thread. Once I have more solid news to report, I'll probably begin a new thread with more information.

Thanks for your patience with me and for keeping the faith. I would really like to thank those who posted above with the kind words of encouragement and belief in me.

Thanks,
Russell

Thanks for the reply, Russ.

Unfortunately, this run seems to be taking as long as the last one...

Oh, well: not like I need them to grab the controls of my starship,
but a monthly update of any sort will be appreciated.

I knew you would be coming through, just had a few bad experiences in the past which started to taint my thinking. Sorry for doubting

and thanks for the update

Russ,
Thanks for the news. I think most appreciate any kind of update occasionally, even if no progress has been made on the gloves. Hopefully your glove maker will finally get you a prototype soon. :)

Forgive my intrusion , but I did want to mention that, yes, the Chinese New Year DOES affect the factories overseas.

Ostensibly, it lasts about a month and the workers, who normally live at the factories, leave and go home to viist their families. Most come back after a month's time. It usually happens in February.

BUT don't let them use that as an excuse for everything. Everyone there knows about the holiday and should have planned accordingly or at least told the person trying to get the run done that there would be a delay.

Just my two cents from the world of toys... and how much for the gloves? :D

Thanks for the info about the Chinese New Year. I believed her when she told me, but it was no excuse for this project taking as long as it has been.

In my original glove makers defense, I believe he has been getting the run-around too, and that is just another reason why this project is taking so long.

I don't have a definate price on the gloves yet because a new manufacturer is now being used. I'll hopefully have more details soon. Ballpark figure for the gloves is $50 for an upgraded version of the ones I sold a few years ago for a little less. I'll post more when I learn something new.

Thanks,
Russell

Good news.

I received a pair of the prototype gloves in the mail yesterday and they look great. There is just one minor detail wrong with them-- the palm is not black like they are supposed to be. Being as they are just a prototype, it will be an easy fix. Gytheran has said that he will post a picture for me later this evening.

The leather is outstanding thought The Deer Skin makes a HUGE difference. The last gloves were made of goat skin and were more of a "bargain" pair of gloves. The feel of the Deer Skin is much more supple, softer, breathable, and comfortable. I am extrememly pleased with them, and I know you will be too. These are definatley going to be great.

those of you who signed up, please send an email to me at smugglergloves@cox.net and I will be in touch soon. Stay tuned for more updates.

The deerskin makes a huge difference over goatskin. It is a much softer leather than the goat, which seems to have the *right* look to what I remember of Solo's gloves.

Here's a page where the future images may be stored, as well as a high res version of the image below:
