ANH Han Solo belt greeblies

And just as a side note, I've seen those clear relays inside the domes of the R3 Astromechs.

Those "ice cube" relays are everywhere, at all price points. Easy to find. I probably have a half-dozen just sitting in a box here, if they are needed by someone. (not exactly like the picture, but similar form-factor, designed to pop into a base for quick changes if they fail).

A black-bottomed version of those clear relays is on the Snowspeeder Gunner dash, a bunch of them are at the base of the skull of the droid that enslaves C-3PO and R2 at Jabba's Palace, and I think some are in the parts that are thrown at Luke during the ESB Battle

So, today I stumbled across something that got me searching again, in another direction.

The relay is a good guess, and may prove to be correct. We just don't have the exact one identified yet, so that is not off the table.

But, has anyone looked at oil-filled capacitors? The bulk of them have two leads, but some have three or more. Generally reserved for high-voltage use, so you won't find them laying around the Home Depot, but they are often served in an aluminum can, mostly silver but I have seen some white, orange and other colors.

These are kinda cute.

Anyone have any further ideas?

Pretty clean look at these warlocks, cropped from an image recently shared by deadbolt on the ANH Hero DLL44 thread. Anyone else think the square relief/pins part is painted a sort of matte gray?

Nice!

One thing I really like about this is that it has a very similar enclosure shape- no white plastic box is added. Too many pins, but those could be snipped.

And further on that subject, are we certain they are in fact "white" and not just clean aluminum? Under heavy lighting, the silver may appear white. Or it may in fact be white. They appear more white than the contact pins on top, but perhaps those were brass or gold plated.

I just don't know how much effort was placed on cosmetics for these parts, that are normally never seen once they are installed. There wasn't much to speak of for plastics in the 40's (mainly bakelite, which is black or brown) and Nylon (patent in 1935), and it wasn't used for stuff like this that I've ever seen. I would expect a "cheaper" plastic, but metal cases makes the most sense, to provide a RF shield for any internal arcing. A secondary plastic case, or cosmetic paint doesn't make sense to me.

And maybe the prop guys painted them white (and added text?). But if they did, the were very careful with not covering the connections on top, so I'm not convinced they were painted, or plastic covered. I could be completely wrong of course.
Just found this thread last week (I've got a holster rig incoming) and picked up this "close-enough" on eBay for less than a pint of beer. This was a brand new/sealed unit from Oct 1963. Model No in the photos. It's very similar to those posted at the start of the thread but is base metal. Depending on the studio lights, I could see this as being mistaken as white, but that is in no way conclusive, especially if the story about Anovos having seen the original is true. Still - cheap and close enough for my needs.

So in the end which is the correct size for the middle (white) relay?

I'm trying to 3dprint ones but seem a bit off (too smal)...
