And just as a side note, I've seen those clear relays inside the domes of the R3 Astromechs.

Those "ice cube" relays are everywhere, at all price points. Easy to find. I probably have a half-dozen just sitting in a box here, if they are needed by someone. (not exactly like the picture, but similar form-factor, designed to pop into a base for quick changes if they fail).

A black-bottomed version of those clear relays is on the Snowspeeder Gunner dash, a bunch of them are at the base of the skull of the droid that enslaves C-3PO and R2 at Jabba's Palace, and I think some are in the parts that are thrown at Luke during the ESB Battle

So, today I stumbled across something that got me searching again, in another direction.

The relay is a good guess, and may prove to be correct. We just don't have the exact one identified yet, so that is not off the table.

But, has anyone looked at oil-filled capacitors? The bulk of them have two leads, but some have three or more. Generally reserved for high-voltage use, so you won't find them laying around the Home Depot, but they are often served in an aluminum can, mostly silver but I have seen some white, orange and other colors.
