anakin rots/luke anh lightsabers, why arent they identical??

Entry from Obi-wan's journal. Day 652....

"Sat around today thinking about mistakes. Took out Anakin's lightsaber to look at it. Realized that if I give this to Luke, he won't be able to wear it on his belt because covertec has discontinued their lightsaber belt clips owing to mass jedi extermination driving down sales. Ordered a d-ring from Tandy. Should be here in a week or two. Will probably have to replace my own covertec clip pretty soon as belt is fitting a bit snug.

Still sick of sand, but feel no need to discuss the issue with anyone as it would make for ****ty dialogue".

:lol Pure WIN! :lol

It was close enough and didn't bother me at all. As stated, there were more changes to the saber between Star Wars and ESB, with less time passing in continuity and real life. The prequils had much bigger problems than trying to match 30ish year old props in minute detail.

AotC Anakin saber is based on the photo of the Icons Vader saber replica in the Visual Dictionary. Somebody mistook the reflection for a cut channel. They changed shroud to silver to make it less evil/Vader.

I don't see why they would need to make his saber an homage to the Vader saber when we all knew his saber was Luke's and that the Vader saber wasn't even made yet.

I love this.

Wait, Lucas is ok with it as long as it isn't on a LARGE SCALE? What would you call the 501st? To my knowledge that's the largest costuming group in the world.

:rolleyes That's a group of costumers. Not a single person cranking out 500 storm trooper costumes a day... And you didn't even quote the right person :p

The 501st is the proof that Lucas does allow a lot of replicating to go on and doesn't sic his lawyers on you or demand licensing fees.

Maybe they knew that ROTS would have new sabers for both Obi-Wan AND Anakin and wanted to have some homages in Anakins lightsaber?

Well, it's pointless to ruminate on it, the movie's been out for years now.

Gordon, the quote was what I said I loved, the next paragraph was a separate thought.

See, i'm in the same boat.

Yeah, it was obvious the AOTC saber was a direct homage/foreshadow of vader. However, it wasn't executed too well. You don't go from homage to the super evil bad guy to homage to the good guy who saves everyone in the end and then become the super evil bad guy.

I've been working on this for a whole 45 seconds now, but a better method would have been starting with the graflex one, having dooku take it in E2, then having dooku throw it in his face in E3, anakin getting even more pissy about it, whacks dooku, obi picks up the saber hands it to anakin who rejects it, so obi sticks it in his pocket. That'd make it more a true rememberance of who his 'friend' was.

Not saying that's gold or anything, but better than the way it done onscreen.

There was mention of this in one of the novels, comic books, or something of that nature.

Anyway, supposedly the reason that the sabers looked different was because while Obi-Wan was spending time on Tatooine he throughout the years borrowed parts from Anakin’s saber to maintain his own. He then later replaced them with other parts as they became available. I’m sure no one was more surprised than him that it still functioned the first time Luke ignited it. :confused
(Notice the relief on Obi-Wan's face when Luke is able to fire it up.):p

Yeah, unseen in the other room were all of Obi-Wan's glass sculptures he made from superheating all that sand with his saber.

Shouldn't 'nit-picky' be hyphenated?

ROTFLMAO!!! :lol

Yeah, this bugs me as well. I wish they woulda used his ep3 saber in ep2 and had him makeshift a new one that happens to look like a graflex based hilt for ep3...

But yes this is like a needle in a haystacks worth of things that coulda been done to help maintain continuity. :confused

Yeah continuity :lol

What about in ROTS where Obi and Ani swapped sabers from 1 split second scene to the next :sick

SW fans are just TOO detail oriented- yet we skip right over the bigger issues. Move the location of a single rivet or screw on a lightsaber handle from one scene to the next, and we're all over it- never bothering to point out the sillyness of a beam of light that mysterioulsy just ends a meter away from it's source. Or the fact that the energy of the blade is somehow solid - resistance in melting through a blast door in ep1, any scene with two saber blades meeting, or any scene where an energy bolt from a remote or an enemy is able to be batted away like it's a slow pitch softball game. That's right- energy bolts- those lumnous lines of pure energy that move not only slow enough to be seen, but slow enough to be reacted to.

At some point, we need to just say "OK- whatever", and move on- and I say this as one of the worst offenders to my own statement!

Guilty as charged, but just an awesome post nevertheless :lol So true.

Yeah, but things have to be consistent within the rules we're given. We'll accept lightsaber tech, but not two dif. handles clearly being passed off as the same. Just like we'll accept that Superman can fly, but we'd be mad if he referred to Earth as the fifth planet.
