An Experiment: List your All-Time 3 Favorite Songs.

A large part of the problem in answering this question is that my tastes tend to change depending on what mood I'm in at any given time, particularly as I grow older; i.e., songs I loved 20 years ago don't hold much meaning these days, while I grow fonder of songs I've heard most of my life that went largely ignored in my younger days. I could list three songs today, and if you were to ask the same question in a month, a year, or 10 years from now, my answers would very likely be different.

I think it should be an ever-evolving list.

On my list, 2 of the 3 would have been the same if you had asked 5-10-15 years ago. One of them is a much-forgotten song that I rediscovered this last year, but a different song by that same artist would have been on the list if I hadn't come across the one I chose.

1. Bad Moon Rising - CCR
2. I Lived on the Moon - The Kwoons
3. Sympathy for the Devil - The Rolling Stones

Oh, absolutely. In my case there hasn't been anything produced recently that I've liked (nothing I can think of at the moment, anyway), but there are decades, perhaps centuries, of music to choose from that I haven't heard yet. I think I can safely say anything from the disco, hip-hop, and/or modern rhythm and blues genres will never appear on any of my favorites lists simply because they're not my thing, but everything else I can think of is fair game.

Re: An Experiment: List your 3 all time 3 favorite songs.

1. 'Divorce Song' by Liz Phair
2. 'Linger' by the cranberries
3. 'Adia' by Sarah Mclachlan

On my list:
1. 'Divorce Song' is from 1993
2. 'Linger' is from 1993
3. 'Adia' is from 1997

Even though there are hundreds of songs I love, and I could easily make a top 25 or top 50, but these really are my most favorite songs.

I love listening to them, I love singing along with them, I never get tired of them even after all these years. I actually named my daughter 'Adia' (middle name) and I have many fond memories with her and that song. Another one of those songs I have a border-line obsession with.

If down to brass-tacks, I would easily pick these 3 songs to listen to for the rest of my life if I had to give up all other music.

Yeah I'd have to say I'm in the same boat that it is VERY difficult to pick three all time favourite songs.

But...

I "think" there are three that I could listen to regardless of my mood, and that I have never grown sick of. They can still give me goosebumps.

Richard Wagner- "Ride of the Valkyries" (full version with female sopranos, not the instumental only version)

Carl Orff- "O Fortuna"

Red Hot Chili Peppers- "Under the Bridge"

Kevin

"Reptile" - Nine Inch Nails
"Two Headed Boy - Part 2" - Neutral Milk Hotel
"Anthem" - Leonard Cohen

First three that came to my head.

Never get tired of these

"Spirit in the sky" Norman Greenbaum

"Ride On" AC/DC

"Maybe it was Memphis". Pam Tillis

Cheers

Sebastian

Pretty much impossible for me I think. If you were going to put a gun to my head though I would have to say:

Canon in D Minor - Johann Pachelbel
Scotland the Brave - (No artist attributed to the original tune)
The Minstrel Boy - Thomas Moore

The Maple Leaf Forever and Amazing Grace were VERY close and hard to drop from the list (I know, it's against the rules to mention more than three but damn is it hard!)

My first and favorite wasn't difficult at all:

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here

It's been my favorite song since I was 13. The second and third took more thought. The second came to me while reading others'.

Johnny Cash - Hurt

Not really a Cash fan at all, but I love that cover. The third is by the Beatles, but narrowing it down is really difficult. I'm torn between my favorites from the later albums I heard a lot of growing up and the early albums I've grown more attached to recently. I guess I have to go with...

The Beatles - Hold Your Hand

I have to say though that my musical taste changes a lot, and I can't say all of those will remain the same. The first two are pretty solid, though.

Electric dreams = Phil oakey and georgo muroda
In between days = The cure
Rhythm of the night = Debardge

Cheesey but good :lol

Livin' on a prayer - Bon Jovi. Proper feel good song, never get bored of singing along to it.
Smack my ***** up - The Prodigy - Makes me feel pumped, that'd be useful on a desert island, motivational music.
I'll remember you - Skid Row - A song to chill out too.

Top 3 in no particular order (i.e. using the criteria of 3 of my favorite songs if I was on a desert island and I had an ipod that could only play 3 songs)

Genesis - Supper's Ready (peter Gabriel era). It's an epic 23 minute long song. It's got tons of styles of music in it. Heavy parts, lighter parts, acoutistic/electric. It would definitely keep me entertained and i would not tire of it

Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs - Maps (gotta have something simple and modern to rock out to)

Pink Floyd - Echoes. Again another loooong song with lots of interesting parts. Can't beat the bang for the buck

Now if using the criteria of just my favorite top 3 songs of all time that I am not stuck with hearing only these three on a desert island for the rest of my life...that's a tough choice since it changes frequently. There are lots of songs I love, but to pick a top 3 is really hard for me.

right now I'd say this according to my play count in my iPod

Goldfrapp - Train
T.Rex - 20th Century Boy
Peaches - You Love it

The reason I have a different criteria for the "desert island song list" is I need something that would entertain me, yet I would not grow tired of the repetition, thus I pick a couple of my favorite epic songs that have a lot of variety in them.
