AMT Romulan BOP/ TOS

It was at this point, your honor, when I started the drinking binge and muttering to myself about getting a duck blind and kazoo, or it may have been that I was just planning on hitting all of my kits with 'anti-aircraft guns'...... but yes, I guess you could say it was pre-meditated.

Excellent stuff.

You definitely QUACK me up!:lol

The wiring from the new switch was simply run into the bridge.

While this is the componentry for the Plasma Weapon.

Man, I've never seen this level of detail put into this kit before. Looking great.

Paternal unit of the Nick,

Thank you very much. There was at least one other gent who did what seemed all of this too. It was posted in a thread on someone else's Rommie buildup (in 1/350th) a while back and I think he also started with the AMT kit? IIRC he also stated he had built it some time back? He might not have had the Plasma Weapon powered up though???? Then there is the subject of that same thread which is a 1/350th and he is doing all of this but without having to "correct" the AMT kit since his is the AW Studios 350th kit. That gent is "Swanny" and it's posted at SFM.

Meanwhile I've retested all the various powered elements and sorted their wiring to the switch and the phono plug. This is what it all looks like before getting stuffed and set into place! Quite the temporary mess. :confused

With all electrical components affixed internally it's finally time to attach the bridge and new tail. First pass of primer towards blending it all in and then the bodywork will be finished.

Thank you gents one and all.

So:
It's masked and ready for paint. Just in case I receive replies before the dirty deed happens I'm wondering how a dark grey base with quite a bit of silver pearl overlay (amounting to a sparkly gunmetal finish) and then a flip-flop copper/green prismatic shift overlay would look? The reason for the phase shift paint is to move it towards green which I associate with Romulans while using the copper to tie in with the orangish/rust bird graphic?
I think it's a cohesive scheme but of course it's arguably non-canon?

Thoughts gents?
Take too long though and you'll see for yourself!:love

EDIT: I've already revised my plan of attack. Probably will go with a Gold to Green phase shift (prismatic) overlay. Again, to tie the graphics into my idea of the "The Romulan Color", green. But it's all being done with pearls and phase shifting overlays so it will still be subtle to some extent.

I placed a base coat of black followed by a new product, Holomatic, Spectral Chrome. It's a pretty badass hue with prismatic shifts that do remind me of one of those holographic security stickers. I'll use this with some further embellishments.

Sweet. I love it. Even more so as you riff on the paint job. This build is inspiring me to get back to my Enterprise. Amazing work DD.

That prismatic paint totally works for the BOP! A couple of the images make it look like matt silver, but I assume that's to do with lighting.

Yes. The angles and curves (overall form) of the BOP lend itself to any prismatic or pearl effect and I had never used this one before but stumbled on it just as I was going to paint. Without light causing the paint to "shift" it is a dark matte silver which is akin to grey so I thought it worked for being in the family of the original color while updating it dramatically at the same time. Why wouldn't a future paint/material have refractive properties on a starship?
Now I just need to figure what I want to do to cap it off.:cool

I wanted a base to help identify this further as Romulan. Looked up an old TOS Rommie emblem and it will sit atop the pedestal. The "fingers" will control the switches for electronics with contacts underneath triggered by depressing the red for weapon and green for all lights since the engines are switched upon the model itself. Of course those are paper templates already transferred to other styrene pieces.

And here it is complete prior to paint. Again, the control switches will be activated by pressing down on the radiating "fingers" which rest below the half round trim to limit their travel back upward. The beveled and rounded edges were chosen to reflect highlights from the pearl and prismic shift paints that will be used on the trim.

I thought your build looked really clean, and at least according to these last photos, there's proof. Prismatic finishes, reflective finishes... if the base isn't really smooth and clean, it shows more in them than in any other finish you can add. Well, again, just so happy, honored, pickled tink that you've decided to send this test build along to me, since you won't have room for it once you get to the real one.
