AMT Romulan BOP/ TOS

Stunning!

I just went on Gooooooooooooogle to get myself better acquanted with the Bird of Prey, this build is going to be awesome. DarthDuck, do you plan on having the nacelles lighted "green" or "red"?

A green/blue in front and red in rear. So should I just have said, yes?:lol

And, thanks Scratchster,:cool

Added the engine vents to the rear panel-

I've wanted to leave the bridge removable. At least for myself up through the very last of assembly to ease the joining of the hull halves and such. Not sure if I'm so worried about it remaining that way but just in case, I fashioned up a receiver within the hull that accepts the bridge with a VERY tight fit and now due to the channel effect it will also block light so I do have that option.

Man, that is looking pretty good. Never thought about taking this lit to that level.
Are you going to fill the windows with clear resin?

White Glue. It dries clear and if you absolutely have to somewhere down the road it can be "picked out" without any damage. Speaking of windows, I just now finished drilling all of them. Square and round alike, then started the priming to do some finish prepping.

And thanks.:cool

Here's the top hull with it's window inserts.

And the lower hull awaiting it's turn now.

I for one love the lil "bumps" and character that these will add and they were present on the filming mini afterall.

Every so often there's a thread that is a pure joy to watch as it progresses, following the choices made (and stuck to--- we all want to do so much, not all of us follow through) Thanks for keeping us involved in this one, it's fantastic to follow (and of course, makes it hard to concentrate on the things I have to be working on, instead of, say, starting a build of my own)

That is so amazing!
When I do my BOP I will be doing some of the mods you are doing.
Mine won't be as extensive as yours though!:lol

Thank you gents, one and all. And "Happy Demon" have fun with yours and I'm sure whatever mods you choose will turn into a fine piece!

Added framework to the rear thrusters which will attach inside to a light source/s.

For the thrusters light source I fashioned a light box which slips into place over the thruster frames and against the rear panel. It has three LEDs housed within a scavenged piece from a LED Flashlight cutdown and framed in with plastic coated with shiny foil. This will then shine through diffuser clear acetate and brass wire mesh at the end of the frames themselves. It'll also have a "flicker" effect which I thought might be appropriate in this case.

The housing is flexible enough that when sandwiched between the hull halves the bowing goes away and it all fits.

Are those aft thruster vents your own addition? I don't remember seeing those on any reference pics? They look nicely executed - Your doing an amazing amount of work on this beast - I'd call it the plastic surgery equivilent of turning Rosie O'Donnel into Nicole Kidmann (Mmmm Nicole...)

Awesome Build! Your process takes me back, but your work is so damn Clean!
B E A U T I F U L !

Sometimes white glue encapsulates & stays white! If I might suggest:
for those windows I recommend Formula 560 (Pacer Brand).
It's white glue - but formulated to dry Super Clear. It 's formulation came about via model car clubs who wanted thee perfect glue for clear windshields & lights.

I wonder if the back of DD's helmet is a DA? ahem...

this is all coming along so very nicely.

Thanks gents one and all and to address some questions:

That 'flashlight' is long destroyed but it was a flattish, wide, sort of affair. A little bit like a 'Mennen Speed Stick'? The reflectors were initially "flat" but some pie cuts and CA took care of getting a flare into it for my purposes.

While I said "white glue" (which I have used) it's actually a craft glue meant to dry "crystal clear" per it's own hype.

The aft thrusters are shown on some blueprints but AFAIK never visible on the TOS epidodes? Yet, they make sense to me and add interest.

Nicole,,,,,,,,,,,mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

Yes, I proudly wear a "DA", or DuckTail in my doo too.

Ducks are clean. Or at least as clean as the body of water we take a dip into? When faced with less than crystal springs kind of water I simply use more shampoo and soap of course!
