Amazing Spiderman Build (Taylor McManus)

PeterParker and Nick have pretty much covered it but I thought a little visual might help:

The zipper that runs along the waist is hidden by the waist band like so:

That is Exactly what I needed to see.
Thank you so much.

Listen to PeterParker. (That sounds about right when talking about Spidey)

A zipper up your back is a FAR inferior method of getting in and out of your Spidey suit. They may be called "Invisible zippers" but they are not actually invisible. They create a tiny gap. On a one color zentai suit, this usually isn't too obvious, but as soon as you have multiple colors and eye-drawing patterns, that gap becomes more obvious. The trick is to move that slight gap to the place where it will be least seen...and that just happens to be the sides and under the belt.

Don't try to reinvent the wheel here, many Spidey suit makers have already tried and vetted this process...and it's exactly what was used for the movie suits. It makes the entire back piece into a giant cat flap. Put your legs in, put your arms in and duck your head through, then zip up. You'll have people wondering how the hell you got into the suit. I've seen people convinced that someone in a Spider-Man costume must've been sewn into it.

Because, just like you guys are having a hard time imaging how someone would get in that way, no one will ever expect that method.

Thanks Nick for your wisdom.
A little more technical....
How many inches for the zippers?
Same length all 3?
The biggest I could buy were 22inches and I bought 2 blue for the sides
and one red for the belt.

McLean's suit seems to have three zippers instead of two, though (which as everybody else has said, is very convenient). Redtogusa, can u put it on by yourself?

Mcleans does have 3, as does mine.
Yup, I can get it on all myself apart from doing up the waist zip. I could do it myself but it's a bit of a pain in the butt to do with gloves on so I usually get someone else to zip it up.

While your suit looks very nice, I must say I've never been a fan of using a regular zipper and then covering it up with a flap of material. People used to do this when the method was to put ONE zipper across the upper back/shoulder area. With yours, I'm wondering how the flap covering the zipper will stay up (over the zipper) in the long run... thinking that gravity and other forces will sometimes bring it down, and the zipper will be seen.

I much rather like the invisible zippers... no need to cover them with a flap. They do show a slight line like Nick mentions, but it is almost invisible.

Just one costumers opinion!

That's cool man, no worries. You'd usually be right. Thing is Mcleans suit seems to be suited to doing the zip this way. The 'belt' part was sewn so it would flap over. It just works in this case. I wore the suit for nearly 4hrs straight back in July and it didn't slip or expose the zipper once, I had my wife keep an eye on it.
Plus the puff paint stiffens the material so to speak which helps it to keep its shape.

The movie ASM suits also had that flap to cover the waist zipper. ;) Though I'm pretty sure they used invisible zips all around.

Mercy, check out the previous page, I lay out how to measure zipper length there.

Whether the ASM suit used 2 or 3 zippers is still up in the air though. I don't remember seeing any definitive proof either way yet.

I'm no expert but to my mind that looks a lot like a 3 zipper flap. Under that coat I reckon he's got the suit pulled down to his waist.

Wow nice eye!
Seen that picture 100 times and never picked up on that.

Thanks Nick I am going to try that.

Wish I got BLACK zippers now :facepalm

Nice! I used that picture to find the original resolution (for better analysis) and here it is:

Looking at that, on the left side of the flap (As we see it) it definitely looks like the end of the zipper to me, which says 3 zippers.

Also worth noting is that it would be impossible to see the outside of the mask with the flap down like that...unless there was a zipper in the mask somewhere that allowed it to be pulled through the hole and inside-out. It appears to go along part of the back of the neck (But it's hard to tell) and my guess is that it isn't for pulling the mask off as it is for cinching the neck tight after putting it on.

...though that's only a guess.

Another good find.
Yeah there definitely is a hood zipper back there.
4, 4 zippers mah ha ha ha ha (the Count)

Where does this "3rd" zipper go? I know DGP said something about the neck area

Vertically down the back of the neck ending at the shoulders.
This way when unzipped you can pull the mask off dangling in front of your chest.

Oh, ok thank you Mercy. Also when you get a second can you send me a pm? I need to ask you something.

Alright I'm at the crossroads.
Do I hunt down a seamstress and get them sewn first?
Any Taylor will be obligated to say "uh oh ok sure I guess".
Or do I start Puffing?
I am concerned to give a heavier print with puff to a seamstress but I feel like I am wasting time not starting.
Also people are saying it needs to be stretched and worn a little before puffing.
So many tough instructions for a seamstress.
Make the web in the middle of the mask, 4 zippers and a belt flap. On and on. I have a mom and pop up the street but I am not sure they would take this as seriously as we do.
They are my only local option.
I feel like I am worrying too much about these prints but I've seen what can go wrong.
Also they were hard to come by.

I started puffing, without any stretch. I did a little bit of the chest, let it dry and did a stretch test.

Seemed to do ok. But I found a seamstress so I'm going to stop and have it sewn. Just waiting on the instructions. Then I'll puff again.

Merlin's sleeve!
It's amazing how much the puffy adds.
The red looks fantastic.
With DGP's darker background these will be the cats pajamas.

i received my print from DGP, looks good. My plan is to get it sewn first then put it on a mannequin and puff paint. Im taking my time and not rushing I am not trying to get it done by this halloween. still excited !

The suit does look dark in pics but looks absolutely perfect in person. Paul shipped this extremely fast and I am very satisfied. Would recommend to anyone. I am not rushing this so I will not be completing this for a few months. As for puff painting before and after, I'm sure it would be easier to puff before but I don't know how much to stretch it out. And are there any sewing instructions anywhere

I've been wanting a comparison between Taylor's and DGP. Thank you for all the input and answers. Which fabric DGP or Taylor do you like better? I like how DGP is dark and useful for paint puff. But Taylor's is thicker and I would imagine thicker feels better?
