Alternatives to resin for pep?

So apparently, my wife is horribly allergic to fiberglass resin. Who knew?!

Anyway, is there a viable alternative to fiberglass resin for the first coat on a pep project? I don't know what specific component of the resin causes her reaction so I guess I am looking for something just as good but completely different.

I know monster mud won't hold up...I don't know what standard polyurethane would do...i am new to this whole thing so I just need some guidance. Help?!

You might want to check out smooth-on products. Because they do so much with material designed for prosthetics and skin contact, they would have a good alternative. I might look at Epsilon Pro - an epoxy coating that works great for coating foam - not sure on paper. Call Smooth-On and ask.

I don't like fibreglass either. Itchy smelly stuff. As are most polyester resins.

You could try Epoxy or polyurethane.

I coated my Pred Bio (started out as a foam PEP build) in epoxy. It takes longer to set than most other resins (normally as a cast it is 3 hours, but working it this way, 6+ hours because it just does not have the mass to exotherm), but once it cures, it is strong and hard. You can add pigments to it to give it a solid or translucent colour and the colour does not get down graded because the resin is clear. The stuff I used had a 35min potlife, so what I ended up doing was setting the piece on a stand (I used 100mm PVC pipe) in a clean container. I tipped the epoxy over the work and then collected the extra run off and recycled until I could see the flow rate slow right down. When fresh it is runs fast, but after 20min or so, you can kind of control it.

Do wear gloves when you do this.
