A very impressive Altair! I would love to tackle this project in the future! BTW not sure if you knew but your hidden blade mechanism is very similiar to the one thats supposed to be used by him in game. It can be seen via a in game schematic :)

Love the detail you put into the little things, really makes the difference! :)

I really got my start in costuming with the 501st, and the two big things that kind of got ingrained with me doing Star Wars costumes, especially Original Trilogy Costumes, was to research and make everything as accurate as possible, and to make it weathered, dirty, and "lived in." I've carried that through into any costume I do.

Worked on Throwing knives and their sheaths today. Got the ones for the Abdominal armor and shoulder belt finished.

Looks like the link got broken to the hidden blade pics from page 1, so I'll repost those with a more in depth run down:

The Hidden Blade was collaborative effort between myself and my cousin. I made the leather parts and the “armor panels” on top of the gauntlet, but the actually impressive part, the blade and release mechanism itself was done by my cousin.
It breaks down basically into a plastic box that houses the blade and the catch, covered in metal, with metal eyelets, and a cast resin blade. The catch release is attached to a ring that fits over my finger. I pull back on the string, pops the catch, and the blade slides out. The blade as it extends out of the case is two parts, you can see it okay in the second gif where the first part comes out, and the end of the blade comes out of the first part…if that makes sense. I can take some more pictures if you want more clarity.

And, it is Gravity Feed, which does have the unfortunate side effect that the blade will not deploy past 90 Degrees, and it does collapse back in on itself when you lift it up. But, for having it pop out when it’s facing down, it looks cool.

Here are some closer images:

And here is my cousin's website:
Assasins Creed Wrist Blade by Kevin Gebhardt at Coroflot.com

As for the Hood, well, that one has been scrapped because it wasn't working well. Currently trying to make a new one that looks good and it's actually the last thing needed to finish the costume.

Did you ever end up finishing this? It looks awesome!

I've been considering making my own DIY Hidden Blade, but using a pressure pad attached to the glove rather than a ring with fishing line.

I actually did go back and finish up the detailing around the arms for Dragon Con in 2019. I looked around at all kinds of trim and edging and lace like material, but could never find one that was a close enough match for me, so eventually, I just got a black fabric marker and drew the decorative design on.

I will say that it is much easier to do Hidden Blades these days with the advent of Hobbyist 3D printing then it was when we engineered this system back in 2015. There are multiple free files on places like Thingiverse, although Altair's is les popular and most tend to Ezio or newer style, that would drastically help cut down on the weight and size.

It really does look fantastic. I was always partial to Altaïr myself, because I think the simplicity of the design just makes the elusive nature of his craft that much more believable. Of course Ezio looks “cooler”, but I always felt his robes were too busy and ornate.

In any case, your Altaïr looks incredible. Thanks for the update pictures. Sorry for the thread necromancy but I just had to see it haha.
