Boy I was one lucky dog yesterday. I have a friend called Andy Wood www.rambo-knife.com, who owns all of the Rambo movie knives made by Gil Hibben and Jimmy Lile, although not screen used, they are still the real deal. Ranging from a screen accurate Lile Mission Dagger, to one of the Rambo 3 hollow handle prototypes, which was featured in the movie for a few quick scenes (check out the mine field scene). The handmades are much heavier and the quality jumps out at you. A lot better than the cheap Chinese mass produced factory made copies. The First Blood and Mission Liles are a lot smaller than they look on screeen. Where the Hibben Rmbo 3 is a sword! Anyways, heres some pics, of a very happy Rambo fan. :)

I used to have Lile "First Blood" no number on mine though.

The Numbered versions were rare.

I think that about 800 un-numbered Lile FB were made......Numbered or not, Lile knives are rare...and beautiful :)

Many thanks Raven to show us the amazing and practically un-seen Lile Rambo 3. It must be easy to "cut" some trees with such knives :lol

Actually , it is Gil Hibben from Kentucky that was commissioned to build theses
knives , ....an error accur when you listen RAMBO III movie.

everywhere in the movie , stallone use the knife with no teeths, but in the minefield area , he have this particular knife in hand when searching for mines.

I have a movie set picture that show sly with the knife.

A beautiful and RARE version indeed! :)

great collection....

Hi

I checked out your thread a while back..great stuff my friend! :)

The green cord hollow wrapped handle prototype, was made for Rambo 3. Gil sent the knives off to Stallone, and a few early scenes like the mine scene and a couple others were shot. Sly then changed his mind, and worked with Gil to come up with the Bowie we all now know and love today. Because of the cost, to re-shoot the early scenes they kept them in the movie. This knife, was kept by Gil in his personal collection, until he recently sold it to my friend. The quality is remarkable! :)

Hello,

A few weeks ago I finally bought the knife of my lifelong dream: a high quality handmade First Blood movie knife, complete with the 14 serrations. It isnt a Lile one though, but sure comes close to being Identical to one! In either case, I love love love it!! It was made by Canadian knifemaker and knifemaking teacher Bill Schiller, and quite possibly a very rare one in which it might be the Only FB movie knife he ever made!

Blade and guard are made with 440C steel and blade is 9 inches long. The handle and endcap is also either 440C steel or 416 stainless steel. Mr. Schiller usually makes his knife handles a bit heavier than others because of something about heavier and thicker handles, esp the hollow handles, adds higher quality to the knife. The blade is full bead blasted and is razor sharp!!

Now, just this past week I ended up being the downright luckiest person via knife buying ever, I think. Anyway, I was on Ebay and saw this beautiful knife and sheath up for bidding, and with a No Reserve.

The knife is fully custom handmade and it resembles the first Rambo 3 knife that Stallone began using (the mine field scene) before changing his mind and choosing the Hibben version. And so anyway, this knife has a 11 3/4 inch blade made with 5/16ths inch thick high carbon 1095 steel. It is also just barely under 3 inches wide at widest point. It has thick, solid serrations but not all the way down the blade as in First Blood and Rambo Mission.

The guard is a slant-type guard like the Rambo 3 Hibben knife. The handle is a beautiful dark Brown, almost Black color, hardwood handle. I believe both the guard and pommel to be high quality stainless steel but maybe be high carbon steel too. And the sheaths is just absolutely Beautiful and very well made.

Now, just for the heck of it, I placed a max low bid on the knife. I just knew there was no way in Hell this knife wasn't going to sell for no less than at least $500, and I actually thought it would go for about $750 or even more. I think the low grade pics of it is what put a damper on any high bids because according to the pics, the handle looked old and dried out and scratched up. The guard and pommel looked like they were rusted over, and the blade on the knife looked like it had many many superficial scratches all over it.

However, I tell you nothing could be further from the truth. Because when I got the knife, every bit of it was plain immaculate except for the described very few tiny tarnish spots on it. And the sheath was just as beautiful and exceptionally well made, custom fitted to fit the knife perfectly!

Now here is the eerie part, but the great part for me. And so, I placed the low grade max bid with 3 days left to go. It was bid on a couple times by others but not many. Finally, and with 2 days to go, the bid held at $66. But I just knew that Someone, perhaps a wealthy collector, would come along and knock my winning bid And my max bid for this beauty of a knife, out oif the ball park. I just Knew it! Finally got down to the last few hours and still remained at $66.

Then the last hour. I knew in a moment that someone else was going to take the bid lead. Then the last half hour, and finally the last 5 minutes. Then suddenly, it was all over, and bang!!!

I tell you, I had won this extravagant very high quality Rambo 3 style knife for $66!!!! The Seller was PISSED! I could tell it in his email, although they remained very professional. They used the word Shocked...that it was won for so low of a bid price. But I could tell that Shocked was not the word they really wanted to use, LOL!

According to them, not only did they not make any money at all on it, they also Lost quite a bit of money on it too! But they rfemained professional and hinest, shipped my new knife to me right away. When I received the knife and its sheath, first thing I thought was "Those pics used in Ebay did not do this knife any justice whatsoever!! Every knifemaker friend I've shown this knife to has praised its quality and cannot believe that i won it for $66.

I had to show a few of them proof that I did. Several of them even told me that the sheath for it alone cost more than $66 to mske, LOL!

Well I am sorry this message is long, but just wanted to explain and describe my amazing blessing of a high end knife won at a price that are only in dreams usually! Thanks for reading!

I will upload pics soon of my movie accurate Andy Wood First Blood knife. Andy is a good friend, and all the knives I was holding in the pics above were his.

Since these pics were taken I have now managed to acquire 4 hand made Rambo knives.

Here is a pic of me wearing the new Hibben knives T-shirt which has the rambo 3, rambo 4 and Expendables Toothpick knives on back, and I am holding my Gil Hibben handmade Rambo 3. :)

My handmade Ramb o knives are still going strong!! So far I have the knife I've always longed for, my handmade First Blood knife. I also have my Steve Voorhis Rambo Missions version knife, a Damascus steel handmade Rambo 3 knife, and a handmade and very heavy Rambo 4 machete knife that is made with D2 steel and is a real heavy duty hacker! My next knife that I will be getting either in a few months or for next Christmas, is either a handmade Rambo Missions knife that is close to being identical to the one in the movie.

My Voorhis, while big and badass and resembles the Missions knife, it isn't an exact lookalike. Either I will get that or will order a handmade Apparo survival knife by Martin Knives. I was also considering the Neely Timberline SA9 survival knife. Either way, I will definitely be getting two of these by the first of next year.

wow !!!
Awesome collection

But it is me or no hibben stamp or engraving of any kind can be seen on the Rambo III ricasso ?
It look a genuine custom handmade Rambo III , Not a United Cutlery , so why it dont have Gil Hibben Logo Stamp or number on it ?
