Guys, heres some videos of the United Cutlery Rambo knives, held along side the hand made Jimmy Lile and Gil Hibben knives. Although there are many small differences, the United Cutlery knives are value for money, if you cant afford the real deal. its unfortunate that United Cutlery are no longer making the first three Rambo knives. :-/

That is an amazing collection.

The videos are great, but I'd love to see a written assessment (or spoken assessment via video) of your thouhts on the similarities and differences between each.

The Hibbens and Liles are my friend Andy Wood's of Rambo Knife. He's gonna edit my videos adding the differences in text and then post them on his site, so stay tuned and in a few days he'll have them up and running pal.

There are many slight differences, Andy's the expert, but from a novice's point of view I'll try my best.

First Blood:

United:
Incorret grind below the raker teeth near to the drop point tip.
Saw teeth are at the wrong angle, and are incorrectly spaced.
Blade painted and not b-blasted.
Drop point incorrect, as the Lile curves up, not straight like the United version.
Butt cap thinner, and with less thread.
Compass not the traditional brass version.
Incorrect nylon wrap on handle.

Rambo First Blood Part 2:

Incorrect grind below the raker teeth, near to the drop point tip.
Painted incorrectly on blade, needs to be more paint and less polished edges.
Incorrect compass in crusher skull butt cap.
Incoorect nylon wrap on handle.

Rambo 3:
Blade smaller and thinner.
Handle incorrect in proportion and shape.
Pommel nut smaller.
Clip is not polished.
Different grind near to lower finger guard.

Rambo machete:

Tip of blade a different shape and angle.
Not as many hammer marks,
Blued blade, instead of rough surface.
Grind incorrect on bottom of blade near to handle.
Handle thinner.
Incorrect tape wrap.
Pommel incorrect shape.
Lanyard hole in wrong place.


These are just some of the differences, that comes off the top of my head. Like i said, these are quite minor really, and at the end of the day, you get what you pay for....you can never replace an original Hibben or Lile.
