That's so cool, great build :thumbsup

Thanks everyone for checking it out. I'm very happy with the end result. Given the materials I had to work with and time frame I was aiming for.

Hopefully the next one will be even better.

Just out of interest, how did you work out the template for the spas cage with just a side profile pic?

You need some imagination to visualize how the part would look not rounded, meaning flat. Draw that on to the foam board, then trim down the excess to make it fit. Then worry about the outer shape of it and any other details.

:facepalm of course, that totaly makes sense, thanks. Wish I could get my brain to fire on all cylinders when I'm on early shift :p

I am curious why you use foamboard instead of plain foamie sheet for the bendy parts.

Or am I just missing something . . . .

Foamies pretty thin and flimsy though. I wanted to make a rigid prop. I also don't want to resin or sand anything. That being the foamies.
I was thinking about using the Eva 1/4" foam I use for costumes for parts like the cage but I opted out.
That could have probably worked with some cardboard backing on the inside. Once sealed and painted, weathered it might have looked decent.

I have found that if you just coat the foamie with a couple layers of watered-down elmers glue (white PVA), it seals it enough so you can paint it and leaves a nice smooth finish, and also stiffens it quite a bit.

Maybe give that a try sometime. :)

Yeah, sealing most foam with Pva glue usually will do that. I've used foamies to detail before.
I'm happy with the materials I utilized. I didn't have to worry about glue drying and such.
You should give your foamies project a shot.

Update:
I've received some cheap airsoft guns the other day. I plan on making a new Pulse Rifle that's a little more sharper and cleaner. I'm just waiting on some Styrene, as I've seen other builders utilize this material with nice results.

-Spas 12 Franchi
-Thompson M1A1

I've taken them apart a little. I guess you can see where this is going.

Be keen to see how the airsoft pulse rifle turns out.

Does the Thompson still fire as I think if I'm correct the battery back was in the stock?

I know of a Japanese guy on Youtube turn out a few fab pulse rifles.

Can see it already looks great.

IF you don't mind, what store was the source for your Spas?

The thompson is just a spinger rifle. I didn't want to spend too much getting the AEG.
It will still shoot, but I'll have to pull the lever back everytime. Ah well..

You can find the one I used here:
Cybergun Thompson M1 Spring Airsoft Submachine Gun, Clear. Airsoft guns

the Spas 12 is here:
Stunt Studios Franchi SPAS12 Shotgun 44 , Clear. Airsoft guns

The nice thing about the Spas is that the cage separates from the base of the shotgun. Usually, these plastic springers are all unibody.

The reason I bought clear airsoft guns is that I'm in Canada and didn't want any border seizures. They have softened the laws with importing Airsoft now a days but there is a muzzle spec it has to follow and a bunch of stuff.
I didn't want to risk it.

Nothing Krylon Flat Black can't fix.

That's about as good a start than any could hope for, this one is gonna look epic real quick.

At those prices for the donor guns, it's a great way to break into the more traditional PR building, especially for dry runs if planning to make an all metal one :thumbsup
